I filed my 2022 taxes on the 01/23 via TurboTax Desktop. My federal return was accepted, but my Indiana State return was rejected due to an error with the County Tax Rate that TurboTax put on the backend. I received an email letting me know I can edit and refile (with TurboTax assistance), but when I go to check, it shows pending and wont allow me to do anything. I checked on web version just to be sure, and of course the returns aren't there (not surprising since I did it on desktop).

I was able to manually override the tax rate and apply the correct one that was listed on the IN DOR website. The question is, how do I go about resubmitting the state without having to do everything all over again, and paying? any ideas would be helpful.

Don't know if you can efile with overrides. And most of the states aren't ready to efile yet. But try updating the program with your federal efile status. State cant be efiled unless federal was accepted. For the Desktop program you have to check the filing status inside the program. Open your return and go up to menu item

I checked the status after 48 hours and still nothing. I also checked for updates to see if anything changed it and there were no updates. I assume its early, but seems like an oversight on TurboTax for not having the correct tax rate. It was more than what it actually is and as a result, I now get a refund instead of having to pay...

Please delete the overrides applied, and then follow the instructions here to run an update on your software.

If after updating you are still running into the same issue, please click here to contact us by phone so we can look into this.

I'm having the same issues. I filed Federal and Indiana State on January 25th. My federal taxes were immediately accepted and I already have my REFUND. The STATUS on TT show both of my returns as PENDING. It won't go away for either (even though I already have my federal refund!). I can't refile my STATE (Indiana) until the PENDING goes away. Using DESKTOP version with CD and downloaded updates. It looks like my STATE county tax has been corrected (as now I'm getting a REFUND instead of owing the state). Unfortunately, I can't refile do to this PENDING status that will not go away.

Why are you trying to re-file? Are you attempting to add (or change) info on your state return? If so, you will need to amend your return and this is done after your return has been accepted and any owed refund is dispersed.

It's possible that your state return is still pending. Even if you filed your federal and state returns at the same time, your state may not start processing it at the same time as the IRS. It's not unusual for state returns to remain in pending status several days after a federal return has been accepted. To track the status of your state return, please refer to your state's Department of Revenue website: How do I track my state refund?

To make adjustments to your tax return, you have some convenient options. Firstly you can easily refile using the same software you originally filed with. Alternatively you also have the option to fill out form T1-ADJ which can also be completed electronically via MyCRA account online or paper copy via mail.

Regardless of how you choose to file your current or amended tax return, remember to save all of your paperwork. You can adjust multiple tax returns dating as far back as 10 years, so make sure you hang on to old receipts, tax slips, and other documentation. When you have these, it makes refiling and amending possible, faster, and easier.

Processing timelines differ depending on how you submit your changes and how complex your situation is. If you use online services, you can track the status of your request within your MyCRA account, providing some peace of mind during the waiting period.

If your federal return was rejected by the IRS using TurboTax e-file option, you can file through another company if you did not correct it and refile. But first, it is advisable to closely review the reason code in the email you received from us. If you correct the tax return you can refile in most instances through TurboTax and not have to go another provider.

IF I GOT REJECTED ON TURBOTAX BECAUSE IT SAYS MY BIRTHDATE IS WRONG BUT ITS NOT AND NEITHER ANYTHING ELSE IS WRONG, IVE GONE OVER IT MULTIPLE TIMES, AND I CANT GET AHOLD OF SSA OR IRS TO SEE IF THEY HAVE MY BIRTHDAY INCORRECT. CAN I REFILE THEM SOMEWHERE ELSE ?

(b) if you check and find that everything is correct, then only option is to file by mail -- this will mean a human will get involved and may solve the problem; (c) IRS uses SSA file to check name , SSN and Birthdate and sometimes the SSA file is wrong ( for whatever reason ). If the error persists then you may have to go visit the SSA local office and they can give you a letter certifying your birth date, name and SSN -- you may have to send this to the IRS to update their records --- that is worst case scenario -- generally getting human intervention may resolve the issue.

Did turbo tax still charge u even tho you got rejected and went somewhere else? Customer support was telling me that even if I got rejected they are still guna charge me 200 whether I go threw them or not

Because if you submitted your tax return here, they were pending until the IRS started accepting. But then you also filed somewhere else and that return was accepted before the one you submitted on TurboTax. Since your return was already accepted somewhere else, the one you completed here was rejected. You can only file 1 tax return per year. Once your social security number has been accepted on a tax return, any future returns with your social security number on them will be rejected. @hlb8734

@hlb8734 TurboTax does not call people unless you asked us to call you. There are scammers that know millions of people use TurboTax. The best method to know what is happening is the IRS at Where's My Refund.

The IRS will reject or accept a return within 48 hours. If your return does reject, you can correct the situation and not have to file an amended return. If the IRS does accept, here is how to file an amended.

This is a common issue this year for some reason. My aunt and two of my nieces are getting the same rejection notices when filing with turbo tax. The code always mentions that it is the wrong AGI even thought he correct numbers are being entered and for one niece, this is her first file ever so that should definitely not be an issue. Mine was accepted but for some reason is on hold with the irs. This year has been incredibly frustrating. We even called in an an agent said my aunts was finally fixed only to have it reverse to rejected again.

However, if you need to report additional income (such as from wages, unemployment, retirement, investments, etc), or change your filing status, claim missed tax credits or deductions, then you will need to amend your tax return. Lastly, you will only have to amend your return has already been accepted by the IRS. If your return is still pending, it might still be rejected. In this case, just make your required changes and try filing your return again.

In order to file a Form 1040-X, Amended U.S. Individual Income Tax Return, you will need to either print and sign the return and then mail it, or you may be able to electronically file your amended return for 2023. E-filing your amended return will save on some delivery time since it can take up to 20 weeks to process amended returns after the IRS receives them. For amendments for tax year 2020, 2021, and 2022, you will need to print and mail your tax return in.

Another situation where you do not have to file an amended tax return is if you already e-filed your tax return and just received a document reporting income. If you did, your e-filed tax return may be rejected by the IRS and not accepted due to the necessary correction needed. Instead of having to amend your tax return, all you need to do is add the previously missed forms, fix the reject error on your tax return and then e-file the return again. If you use TurboTax, we will guide you through correcting the reject status on your tax return.

Lastly, remember when you amend your federal tax return you may need to amend your state tax return since some states follow federal tax law. When using TurboTax, the changes made to your federal return will automatically transfer to your state return, making the process simple.

Before you choose to amend your 2014 return because of the doctor bill take a look at your 1040. Did you claim the standard deduction or did you itemize? If you itemized, or decide to itemize now, only the medical expenses that were over 7.5% of your adjusted gross income are included. If you do decide to amend, here are the instructions on how to do it in TurboTax:

I received my K1 schedule after e filed the federal and state, both are received and accepted status. Can I send in the amend now? I am a little confused with the forms, it has 1040X form and 1040 form with other documents, I wonder do I need to send in all the form, or just 1040X form with K1 schedule (Copy or original?)Thanks!

I filed my taxes using deluxe version of turbo tax not expecting a k-1. My return accepted by irs & already received refund. When I started the amend process thru turbotax after receiving a k-1 it said I have to have premier version to amend k-1. Is that correct?

Hi,
I originally filed my taxes with my girlfriends kids as dependents. The return was approved but I only received a partial payment from the IRS. I got a letter saying they dont qualify as dependents so she carried them instead. Im trying to file an amendment on the turbotax website but the information is auto-populating as if I got the full refund. How do i change that to show the actual amount I owe?
