Lets Talk Music Live

THE NEW FUTURE OF MUSIC, OR THE END OF A GOLDEN ERA ?
The Internet is changing everything

The Bedford, 77 Bedford Hill, Balham SW12 9HD
Wednesday, September 15th - doors at 6.30 - Free entry
www.thebedford.com

What does the future have in store for YOU the musician, singer/songwriter, performer. Where will digital technology take us and what are the opportunities for for new artists to make their mark within a worldwide web that is getting ever more crowded and competitive ?

Lets Talk Music's theme for September is THE INTERNET. In an age of constant change, the way we communicate, market and promote music has changed beyond all recognition. Here is a chance to meet and hear the people behind some of the greatest innovations the music industry has ever seen. Representatives of Last.fm, WE7.com and (possibly the most important web site of them all) GOOGLE will be taking part in Lets Talk Music LIVE.

Hosted and presented by Tony Moore they will be talking about exactly where we are now, and visions of the future, plus answering questions from the audience

Also joining the Panel will be artist Laura Critchley, talking about the success that has so far come about directly as a result of the internet, plus exclusive live sets from Laura and hot new act Dave Gibson.

The evening
is open to all but strictly on a first come first 'get in' basis. Judging by the popularity of the first two shows it is well worth coming early to be sure of being a part of the audience! Doors open  at 6.30pm and the show starts at 7.00pm. There will be exclusive live music performances from Laura and special guests.

Questions from the audience are encouraged, so if there is anything that you wish to know about Publishing, the panel will attempt to give you an answer. For those unable to make it in person the show will be webcast live (via the Bedford website) as well as simulcasting into Second Life (see www.dublinsl.com for more information).

There will be an interval at 8.30 and then there will be a full acoustic show that starts from 9pm and runs for the rest of the evening.

Lets Talk Music is a Goodwine Production

Tuesday 16th September
S
heffield and Balham United

A
unique evening dedicated to throwing the spotlight on the very best new and emerging talent from Sheffield AND London, on one stage, for one night only.

Over recent years, Sheffield has proved to be a hotbed of talent for innovative new artists like the Arctic Monkeys. However, the City also has an envious reputation for being home to all kinds of highly original music, including Pulp, Joe Cocker, Def Leopard. Human League and many more.

Meanwhile, in the South, The Bedford has become an important and critically acclaimed venue. With a passion for performance, The Bedford is dedicated to discovering, developing and promoting the very "best of the best" in emerging acts, breaking artists and established performers.

And so, on 16th September, together with Cafe Nero, we bring you two of our favourite acts from the South alongside two faves from Sheffield! A rare opportunity to see the musical talents of London and Sheffield at the same time!

Lineup includes: Helen Boulding, Ely, Jon Allen and Jamie Lawson.

Miss it, miss out!

Doors: 7.30 / Entry: Free

Help......we need somebody...not just anybody ! (To Misquote The Beatles)

The Bedford is one of the countries premier venues specialising in discovering, developing and promoting the very best new and emerging acoustic acts. In order to provide an environment with one of the best sound systems, stage experiences and audience atmospheres, requires a lot of physical input and people power. We are extremely labour intensive and "non corporate" and that means, as we grow and expand, we need more people to help us, who are like minded spirits and have a passion to make a difference.

So, we have some very exciting work experience positions open for anyone who truly has a desire to get involved and be a part of our team.

Previous experience is helpful but not needed as we will give full training in each of the two positions that we have open.

Ideal candidates will be energetic, creative and dedicated people who are either local to Balham or are able to get to us without too much trouble. This is especially important as we often finish our shows after 11.30 at night.

PRODUCTION ASSISTANT:

We are looking for someone with passion and drive, enthusiasm and a genuine love of live music to join our technical production team looking after the logistics of staging live shows.

This will mean setting up and breaking down PA systems, looking after artists and their backline requirements, operating PC equipment to webcast shows and generally learning about all aspects of live performance.

We are a multi roomed venue with different shows and events happening every week and this is a demanding and exciting job for the right applicant.

It would be an advantage to have some technical experience in PA systems/Sound and light etc. But just as important is a great work ethic, open and friendly personality and a willingness to learn and grow with us.

You do need to have a certain physical strength to be able to perform parts of this role when it comes to rigging and de-rigging the stage.

Even though this is a work experience "internship" we need people who are able to set aside a regular amount of time to really get to know this job and be relied upon.

This is a position that, over time for the right person, could develop into a more permenant position

HOST/SHOW PRESENTER:

One of the things that sets The Bedford and Regal Room apart from most other venues is the fact that we always have someone to host and present the shows. This, for us, is a very important and essential part of the evening. The host "glues" everything together, sets the tone for the evening, introduces the artists and generally keeps everything together from the stage. Almost all of you will probably have seen a Bedford show, so you know what to expect to some degree.

So, if you have the confidence and enthusiasm to stand up in a room full of people and take responsibility for the night, then we want to hear from you.

Ideally, you will be musical or have a great love and understanding of music. You will be able to ad lib for extended periods of time, you will have a inner sense of timing so you know to keep things moving along.

It is actually quite a challenging job,and although we have a pool or presenters already on call, as the business moves forward we will want to add to that number

Please note THESE ARE NON SALARIED Positions.

If you are interested to know more, please send an email with details of any experience to date, CV (if you have one) and a little bit of background about you along with contact details to:
