Four years ago, we traveled out into the oyster reefs of Alligator Harbor with Dr. David Kimbro. It was both the start of an ambitious new study and of our In the Grass, On the Reef project. Last June, we went back to those reefs with Dr. Randall Hughes as she, David, and their colleagues revisited study sites from North Carolina to the Florida Gulf. In 2010, they sampled the reefs with nets and crab traps, and harvested small sections of reef. This more recent sampling, which unfolds in the opening scenes of our recent documentary, Oyster Doctors, was conducted with underwater microphones. Randall explains how sound became a tool in further understanding fear on oyster reefs.

Dr. Randall Hughes is an ecologist and marine biologist focusing on the causes and consequences of species and genetic diversity in coastal systems. She has conducted experimental work on plants and animals in seagrasses, salt marshes, oyster reefs, and kelp forests. The common thread throughout these activities is a long-standing interest in generating information that can enhance the effectiveness of conservation and management decisions.

Suppose you had a question, and you really want a good answer that would solve your problem, but noticed it was already asked by someone else. Now, a lot of answers had been posted and upvoted, and maybe one was accepted. However, none of the answers solved your problem. The system does not promote the question very much because it is not considered "unanswered", and a lot of users who would otherwise bother to give a correct answer will probably skip the question completely as there are already many highly-voted answers.

If your question really is identical to the existing question (so that you cannot ask a new non-duplicate question), and the problem is entirely that the existing question's answers are poor, then you can set a bounty on the question, offering a reward for improved answers.

Something that many people may not be aware of. It's not appropriate to copy another answer and provide a link to that answer, in fact it's not ok to do that with any resource. There needs to be a reasonable effort on the part of the author to write some original content. It's perfectly reasonable to cite other authors or include referenced quotes when writing original content.

After the United States entered the First World War, he joined avolunteer ambulance unit in the Italian army. Serving at the front, hewas wounded, was decorated by the Italian Government, and spentconsiderable time in hospitals ....

Do not copy the complete text of external sources; instead, use theirwords and ideas to support your own. And always give proper credit tothe author and site where you found the text, including a directlink to it.

When we ask for original content, we need more than a one liner saying "so and so says". It needs to be reasonable. Even if there's a summary of a line or two. Consider making it proportionate to the size of the copied content.
