This is disappointing news. Some of you may know Bob Erie. He's been to some refurbishers conferences.

According to a Basel Action Network press release, Bob Erie, CEO of E-World Recyclers in Vista, CA (the San Diego area) was criminally indicted in December of 2014 by a Grand Jury for conspiracy, trafficking in counterfeit goods, falsifying records, and lying to the government. He was subsequently arrested, released on bail, and pled guilty to the charges. The case is still pending a final judgement.

Hi Everybody,

I just got a statement of Eworld's side of the story. This may be the first publication of it. They say that key facts of the BAN press release are inaccurate and false and need to be corrected. There'll be more on this. Bob Erie is scheduled to do an interview with Jerry Powell at E-Scrap News early next week. He said that he wants the truth of this to come to light so others of us can avoid what happened to them. Here's eWorld's statement:

"We have knowledge of the article released by Basel Action Network (BAN) on June 4th that attempted to discredit Bob Erie, CEO of Eworld Recyclers. The charges are a matter of public record and have been the subject of a nuisance case that has persisted for 5 plus years. The author of the article does not have all the facts and only relied on the content of these records to report the story. Many key facts are inaccurate and false and need to be corrected. Mr. Erie has been a highly respected member of the electronic recycling industry for over 15 years and a pioneer in the evolution of managing this type of waste stream. E-World stands behind Mr. Erie and supports his fight against these charges as he is prepared to answers these allegations made against him. Mr. Puckett failed to address the simple action of corroborating the content in this story with more than one source thereby resulting in an attempt to disparage and defame based only on content that has not yet been argued or proven. There is much more to the story and Mr. Puckett’s quotes in this article attempt to reveal one side of an issue to further an agenda. We have consulted with our attorneys and are considering our legal options in this matter. We are confident that once the case is heard and the facts are presented, Mr. Erie will prevail and continue to further his vision for Eworld and his leadership in this industry, launching innovative and productive recycling programs."

Find the E-Scrap News story with excerpts from Jerry Powell’s interview with Bob Erie’s that I mentioned last week at:

In his interview with E-Scrap News, Erie maintained he had actually pleaded not guilty and stated the guilty plea appearing in the record was the result of a "clerical error." That plea error was confirmed with E-Scrap News by Rebecca Kanter, the U.S. district attorney handling prosecution of the case. The docket report now indicates a not guilty plea. In the interview with E-Scrap News, Erie called the government's allegations "completely and utterly untrue.” In the coming weeks, E-Scrap News will continue to follow this developing story.
