Just wondering if other smaller refurbishers (refurbishers that do less than 100 systems/month) are using FLOSS/Open Source CRM/ERP systems in their organizations?
We're in the process of switching from paper tracking for repairs to PC Repair Tracker (PCRT). It's great for repairs, but it's not quite a CRM/ERP program.
We don't have a budget to buy new software, but I'm comfortable with running software on LAMP stacks so going FLOSS looks good.
SugarCRM has a community edition. Does anyone know if the community edition does social networking, or is this only in the Enterprise version?
I've also heard about CiviCRM, but from what I can see it's just a slightly modified version of Drupal and needs a fair amount of development planning and work.
I think we want to host it because of privacy issues so something like Zoho is out.
Regards,
Charles

I've heard that Salesforce is available for nonprofits for free -- and it's a very good CRM, from what
I gather.

We rolled our own and found it too costly to maintain, explored a bunch of options including CiviCRM and other FLOSS options. We ended up going with Salesforce, which does allow for most 501(c)(3) nonprofits to get 10 free user licenses. I can't comment how well it works for us, since we're just starting out. All of the options seem to have a fair amount of setup costs and learning curves.
