Dear Refurbishers,

Does anyone have a favorite chemical removal tool for asset tags and
stickers? I have used white board cleaner in the past, but I need a
better solution.

We are working on a large number of iBooks that have very sticky asset
tags and other labels. What do I use to take this gunk off plastic?

Thanks!

Brian

we peel as best we can, then use paint thinner for the residue.

Plastic stickers usually come off with a slightly dull razor scrapper.
Paper stickers work the same way except add a quick spray with goo-gone
wait a bit.

Goo-gone, rubbing alcohol 70% fine 90% better. We use goo-gone for most
stickers but some use adhesive that reacts better to alcohol. We also
use post paint stripper prep solvent for very very specific issues like
paint marker and some non alcohol based markers. I would not recommend
this for those unfamiliar with heavy solvents power on plastics and
safety concerns needed when handling.

I don't use chemicals. I use a heat gun to soften up the old goo. When
done properly the goo sticks to the old sticker and no chemicals are needed.
Practice on a worthless machine as it is possible to melt the plastic case,
but with practice (5 seconds on high in a swirling motion for my gun) it all
comes off at once.

For most cleaning we use Orange-Sol Electric Component Cleaner - non-sticky
citrus based.
For labels we have three levels of cleaners. Orange-Sol Citrus (oil based -
soak), Goo Gone, and the most potent - use in a well-ventilated place Oops.
For ink and permanent marker, use white board cleaner (Expo) with Goo Gone.
The combination works great.
Thanks for the tip about WD-40 on Dell black cases.

Hi

Acetone or naptha (Coleman stove fuel), but both need light gloves and will evaporate quickly if the container isn't kept sealed.

Apparently Avon "skin-so-soft" does everything in the universe though. http://www.kitchencraftsnmore.net/skinsosoft.html

Wow. Thanks for all of the wonderful suggestions! I work in a high
school with teens, so I do need to be careful with what I use.

Cheap hand sanitizer works on stickers. Leave it on for a minute or so,
and the sticker will come off.
