Good luck, Phil. And thanks for all you've contributed to the refurbisher community and the folks who have gotten better computers thanks to your insights and hard work.

Hi refurbishers,

Here is an amusing story. Over the past 30 years, I've delivered more than a thousand refurbished computers to families and individuals in need. Often, when a part is not working, I'll swap it out with a part that is working.

Well, guess what? It's now time for me to be refurbished -- and I'm in a very good mind about this. I live with an auto immune condition that has degraded my liver slowly over the past 30 years. My gastro tells me I need a liver transplant. This is not as scary as it sounds. Right here in the Washington DC-area is Georgetown University Hospital, which specializes in liver transplants. This hospital has accepted me as a patient and my surgeon down there could not be nicer. Their success rate of liver transplants at this hospital is 95 percent. I'll take those odds any day.

And now here is the part of the story that is very sweet. My surgeon asked me what I like to do when I'm not at work at my public library job. I told him, "Well, I like to make music videos and upload them to YouTube." His reaction? "Really, you like to do that? I want to see your YouTube channel."

Two hours later, this surgeon comes to me and says, "I've looked at your music videos. Our hospital is studying the healing effect of live music on patients in the hospital. Would you consider coming back to play music for patients after your liver transplant." Me: "I'd love to do that."

So, the refurbisher is gonna be refurbished. I'm in good spirits and not in any pain at the moment. I'll keep y'all posted. Naturally, I'll need to wait until a donated liver comes in -- but my surgeon seems to think everything is do-able.

And, if you'd like to see some of my recent music videos, I've collected them over here.
