I'm wondering what other community computer refurbishers are using to track repairs. At our project we take in all systems, from us or not. Our method to date has been to give an ID# to each computer, attach a half sheet to the top of the PC for notes, and keep a full page with personal information and the ID# in a binder in a lock up (we take privacy pretty seriously here).

The down side to this paper tracking method is that we have to sift through paper and it doesn't give us a great overview of history. I was looking at some commercial solutions, but being a fan of open source I'd like to avoid using a commercial solution if I could find a good alternative.

I'd prefer something web-based. We have 7 workstations we do repairs at. I tried MYIT CRM but found it cluttered. There is a Drupal module that does a kind of repair tracking, but it looked like it was something for internal repairs, rather than client repairs. I was thinking of spending some time creating a system in Drupal. Has anyone done something similar for their project already?

Have you looked at SysAid? We use it for tracking all the repairs we do and it works great, the free version is very basic but works good, you have to install it on a server for use in your company as a web based program.
