I just heard from my co-managers of the Refurbishers List, Charles Brennick and Sarah Kim that the president and the founder of World Computer Exchange, Timothy Anderson, passed away in July after battling kidney cancer. He was 71. Many of you met him over the years. He was a droll light-hearted guy, but somebody who did great things while he was with us. He had an MPA degree from Harvard Kennedy School of Government. He did a lot of things. He was a zoo-keeper at two zoos, worked for the National Endowment for the Humanities, founded and ran an early charter school and co-founded the Boston GreenSpace Alliance and the Boston Management Consortium, and founded and managed the federally-funded Hull Environment & Services Corps. He was also on the board of World Reuse, Repair and Recycling Association. We knew him best for his role as president of World Computer Exchange, though.
Timothy, with his wife Pamela Cooney, devoted the past 22 years to bringing opportunities to many young people around the world. Under Timothy’s leadership, WCE grew from a volunteer corps of 250 shipping to 4 countries to its current reach to 54 countries with Field Associates in 11 countries and 600 volunteers globally. To date, WCE has connected 5.2 million children and youth in 3,650 classrooms.
