Friends,

Are there any Refurbishers that are using PC Angel Recovery Software?  How has it worked for you and can you share costs?

Willie,

We have used PC Angel on a limited basis with good results.  It is easy to set up and use and we have been able to use it with our duplicator or Clonezilla server without any problems.

Generally, we create a system restore point when our setup has finished.  We haven’t felt we need to incur the additional cost of PC Angel as our rates of repair/replacement haven’t reached the point of needing it.  If the hard drive fails, then PC Angel wouldn’t help.

As we start placing computers at further distances in greater quantities we would be willing to revisit the issue.

We use PC ANGEL when selling to a select sub-section of our client base.

For folks who have their own Tech Support 'go to' guy, it might not make sense.  HOWEVER, if you are selling to end-users, we found it works well.

dar...@pcangelsolutions.com is your contact if you decide to go that route.  It works.  There is no doubt about that.

We could NOT get it to clone on a Logicube device - so we're pretty bummed about that ~ even after extensive trouble-shooting with PC Angel and Logicube.

But the software does what it claims it will do.

We have been able to clone hard drives using a Logicube duplicator.  We insert the USB PC Angel Key into the computer after installing the cloned hard drive and before it is booted up for the first time.

We agree with Sean that we would only use  it with a part of our client base.  It would be helpful for those individual clients living at a distance from our facility.  I would encourage any MARs interested in using PCAngel to get together and discuss the pricing structure by working in volume.  We could get together at the conference in Miami Beach next month.

Pat,

Glad you mentioned that. We are planning a session on this at the Refurbishers Summit (Oct. 14th and 15th in Miami – www.icrsconference.org).

We now have a solid roster of tech sessions (by poplular demand) including yours on Clonzilla and Sysprep, the hard drive recovery session we’re talking about in this thread, and also one one by Harold Mitts, Microsoft’s worldwide technical subject matter expert for refurbisher technologies. He’s doing a technical preview of the Refurbisher Preinstallation Kit (RPK), which is a software tool to help simplify refurbishment and Windows XP installation on diverse types of computers.

RPK automatically applies a Windows XP image onto virtually any hardware, complete with driver and application support.
