A fascinating experiment.

My gut sense is that it costs Microsoft less than $3 to deliver 15 days of free wifi -- including the cost of the device. (Anyone care to offer another guess as to the cost of this experiment?)

Might it be possible for some of the nonprofit organizations on this list to distribute free wifi in a similar fashion to students who are meeting or exceeding their educational goals?  Teaming up with public libraries, too, so that students who are reading more than 4 books per month get free wifi at home. (Students need to write short reviews of the books they read.)

This might make for a very interesting Kickstarter campaign, especially if several organizations on this list were to pool together on this. My experience has been that there are lots of families who still do not have Internet access at home -- that are not being reached by other outreach methods.

btw, if there are nonprofit organizations on this list interested in this, i can volunteer time to coordinate a funding campaign.  i'm also in touch with some journalists and bloggers who might cover such a campaign for ZDNet, Network World, Boing Boing, etc.
