Friends,

Microsoft recently announced that the Microsoft Registered Refurbisher (MRR) program will longer sell Windows 7 licenses or COAs as of July this year.  The Refurbisher’s Preinstall Kit (RPK) will NOT install either Windows 8.1 or Windows 10 nor are there plans to update RPK.  If you are using RPK you will need use a new method to install Windows.

Please allow me to suggest a few alternatives.  You could join me for an ADK Fest (details here).  To signup click here.  The cost is $95 and collected on the day of the event.  Harold Mitts the software engineer that developed RPK will present a one day workshop on a script based light touch ADK deployment solution.  Additionally PCRR is working with SoftThinks using their SDS4MAR solution.  They have developed a set of tools for Dell that we are bringing to the refurbisher community.  SDS4MAR includes certified data destruction, SMART hard drive testing, hardware testing, BIOS update, and driver injection.  Their solution significantly simplifies the imaging process and reduces the time required to image a system as per the MRR Program requirements.  If you want detailed information please e-mail Bill Romano (bi...@softthinks.com) I am sure he will be happy to help.

I know that many of you have developed your own solutions so during this period of significant transition I hope that the community of refurbishers can help and support each other.  Please let me know if you have any other ideas or suggestions.

Willie I initially thought the same until I reread it. It seems only Win 7 home Premium is being dropped.

I need some clarification on this. From reading the registered
refurbisher newsletter it was my understanding that Microsoft will
stop making Windows 7 Home Premium available as of July. We purchase
Windows 7 Professional. Is that also going to stop being available
this July?
