Hello everyone,

I am pleased to announce that we have the new dates confirmed for the next IKEA-Refugee Council work placement opportunity for refugees beginning in February 2023. We are now open for referrals to the IKEA UPPNA Programme at IKEA in Lakeside, Wembley, Hammersmith, Greenwich, Croydon and Reading. Over the last year many clients have successfully completed the programme and have stayed on with jobs in IKEA. Thank you so much for all your referrals which made this possible.

Please note, there are limited spaces available so we will be enrolling referrals as they come through but once we reach the capacity for this course we will close referrals. Any referrals after this will be kept on the referral list for the next course.

Key information:

This opportunity offers 4 days of pre-employment training on Zoom with a Refugee Council trainer and the chance to interview for an 8 week paid placement at the local IKEA stores in Lakeside, Wembley, Hammersmith, Greenwich, Croydon and Reading. If successful, participants can apply internally for permanent positions or contract extensions if available on completion of their placement. So far, the majority of refugees who have completed the placement through this opportunity have been offered further employment at IKEA.  This is a promising opportunity for refugees to enter the job market with a reputable, understanding, and global employer.

  • Full attendance at the training is required in order to be offered an interview
  • English Entry Level 3 (or equivalent) is required, as is permission to work as a refugee
  • When referring please complete the referral form in full and share copies of BRP card if you have these.

I have attached a poster advertising the opportunity and referral forms. Please do feel free to circulate these where appropriate.
