Well, it seems like I have a plethora of places to announce updates to
WA, so I'd like to know what would be best for everyone. These are the
places I announce it at the moment:

On livejournal ( http://labile.livejournal.com ) - no real bonus to
this, except that I have a bunch of watchers there, and you can post
replies.

On Twitter ( http://twitter.com/wickedalchemy) - this has an RSS feed,
so if you subscribe to @wickedalchemy you can get the updates directly
on your browser toolbar (or however else you look at RSS feeds). You
can also reply to posts ( using @wickedalchemy ), but I'm unsure about
replying to replies, since I don't want to clutter up the feed.

On onlinecomics.net ( http://www.onlinecomics.net/pages/support.php?comicID=1813&ref=http%3A%2F%2Fwickedalchemy.net%2F
) - Not really sure this is a valid option, as it doesn't seem anyone
ever visits it, nor do I ever seem to get any traffic from it (even
way back before the hiatus).

On this google group (just started this, don't know how it'll work
out, but it DOES have the RSS feed option like Twitter).

On the new free forums ( http://alchemists.phpbbsite.com/ ) - Not sure
how much people visit this, either.

On the website itself ( http://wickedalchemy.net ) - But this requires
people to visit the site, which they'd see the updates anyway. Also, I
haven't gotten the comments working yet, so really no way for people
to leave feedback. And no feed.

On deviantART ( http://inqy.deviantart.com ) - I dislike updating my
journal every time I update a page, since it doesn't often correlate
with what I'm doing on there... so the updates are usually a little
late here.

Sooo... what's easiest/best? Or if there's something I haven't
mentioned, let me know.

My vote is for using this group. I think that it's actually the most versatile
option. People can read and post to it like they would a forum. Or they can
read and post to it through their email. Or they can read it on an RSS reader
(and post through one of the other two methods). My habits for checking email
are much better than for checking websites or following RSS feeds, but there's
probably other people who prefer one of the other options. This way I think can
make the most people happy.

Which I should probably note is the opinion of somebody who isn't on twitter or
deviantART at all, has essentially abandoned his livejournal account, and is
fairly certain that he would keep forgetting to lurk on the new forums (which is
a big part of why I haven't registered there). I'm sure that other people like
another location for the benefit that they're already there. I think that the
advantages to the group stand on their own, but I will admit to a certain amount
of curmudgeonliness on my part.

If you decide not to use the google group, I consider an option with an RSS feed
(livejournal and twitter both have them) to be second-best. It does cost me my
ability to leave comments, though. (Also, I've yet to find an RSS reader that I
actually like.)

How is it that you update the site? Is it possible for the site to
automagically send an email message to this group whenever you add a comic page?

Well, I'll tell you what I use, then I'll express an opinion. I use
LiveJournal and am making an effort to check it once in a while but I
think I'd probably miss updates there. I use DeviantART though I check
that about as much as I check LiveJournal. I use Twitter and though I
believe I am subscribed to @wickedalchemy I think I'll rarely see it
since I rarely check Twitter while I'm AT my computer ( weird, I know.
I get text updates). I am associated with the other forums, but I
very, very rarely will check those (though now that I know they're
actually <i>in use</i> that may change). While I have the website in
bookmarks I just about never check it. I use this place, obviously,
and I get a daily email digest so you could say I check it once a day.

If you use Twitter, I work around for the clutter is to use direct
messages in reply to replies. The downside to that is if you find it
an interesting question or answer, you have a limited number of words
to express it on the Twitter page (especially if you want to include
the question) and there are people like me who absolutely cannot stand
tweets that are more than one tweet long (it drives me bonkers!). I
think I'd prefer this place, myself, as well. Downside is it doesn't
seem to be widely known and, I suppose along with most of these
places, one would have to sign up to comment (as well as, in the case
of this place and the boards, practically wait for written approval to
try initially). The website con comments could be the most public.
This place or the other forums would be the most niche. Honestly, it
seems to me that the best place to update at this point in time is
LiveJournal because of its versatility and the fact that a large chunk
of your fanbase already knows about it and subscribes to it and, aside
from your forums, it's the most publicly available place to update and
receive comments/reply to comments.

That's tunable, actually. It depends on how we want this group to be run
(technically that "we" is actually "DD" as things stand). If we want to stick
to group members only, the approval-time can at least be reduced if the
authority to do so is available to more people. Or we could let anyone post to
the group (people still need a Google Account, I think, but that can be tied to
any email account not just gmail users so the bar to entry is pretty low). If
need be, that could be subject to individual posts needing approval before they
become visible (a bit of a hassel for somebody or another). I don't know if
group controls allow tuning it so that non-group members can post but the posts
need to be approved, while members can post freely.

Only group members can post. There is no function to seperate non-
member posts from group member posts for moderation purposes.

Other managers will be set up in due time to speed up the verification
of new members.

I'd like to get everyone either using just this Google group or just
the PHP forum. While I prefer the forum, more people seem to prefer
this group.

How you view updates to the group is up to your own preferences.

I'd appreciate it if you made me a manager, so I can see how it's all
set up.

I use anything that gives me alerts >> LJ and Google Groups gives me email alerts, and now that I have twitterfox, it gives me alerts as well. DeviantArt's alerts suck. So that's my opinion!
