Wendy M. Grossman, an award-winning journalist and the author of net.wars, will be joining us at the Informatics Forum to give a talk on the development of the internet, and mass surveillance.

The internet began as a way of sharing information - but also as a way to subvert the top-down design of earlier networks. Much of the early 1990s hype dwelt on the notion that the internet could not be controlled by governments or corporate interests.

However maps of the internet tell a different story - and help explain why internet traffic has been so easy to spy on. Keeping the Internet free and open will require technology, law, and policy, working together. Can it be done? Join us to hear Wendy’s verdict.

The event is free to attend and will be followed by a Q&A discussion.
