Hey, Guys & Gals,

I have been asked to photograph a family of 14 in an outdoor setting.  Normally I photograph groups of five or fewer, so I haven’t scoped out good outdoor locations for large groups.  I would like to “layer” the group, so the location would need to have a slope, or maybe a nice outdoor staircase.  Do any of you know of a good location for a group this size?  I would be photographing in the north Phoenix/Paradise Valley/north Scottsdale area.

Thanks a bunch,

Robert Dickinson

Robert,

I just took a couple out last week to City Hall by Old Town Scottsdale for their engagement photos.  There are tons of stairs, sloping hills, and different places to layer people there.  There's also a giant statue of the word LOVE spelled out in bright red and I've seen family portraits done on this that turned out very nice and fun.  I think it would work especially well if there are smaller kids (4-8 years old) in your group because they can climb on the statue and have fun.

Becky,

Thank you for this location idea.  I will certainly take a look at it.  I visited your webpage, and you have really nice pictures.  Your sunset list is a good idea.  And so is your list of wardrobe recommendations.

By any chance, are you related to Earl Sharrah?

Thanks again,

Robert Dickinson

Robert,

Thank you!  Yes, I'm married to Earl's nephew's son, Corey.  How do you know Earl?

I know Earl from CSK Auto, if we’re talking about the same Earl.  I used to work there until I was laid off in March.

Wow, that would be the same Earl.  How about that?

Next time there is a Refocus get-together, I’ll have to make it a point to meet you.

Till then,
