Le Secretaire general a informe hier que l Iraq avait officiellement
demande a l ONU de preter son assistance a la redaction du projet de
Constitution de l Iraq qui doit elaboree d ici au 15 aout. Kofi Annan a

cette occasion historique d une facon qui reponde aux attentes de toute

president de l Assemblee nationale de transition de l Iraq, Hajim N.

Dutch referendum turnout high so far
The Dutch have been turning out in high numbers to vote in a
referendum on the EU constitution. Final opinion polls suggested
that the Dutch would reject the treaty. On Sunday, French voters
overwhelmingly rejected the treaty but unlike France s referendum,
the Dutch vote is non-binding. But it is likely to sway parliament,
which has the final say. Nine EU states have ratified the treaty so
far, but it requires approval by all 25 member states to go into
force. EU leaders will meet for a summit later this month to discuss
the future of the constitution.

Africa Economic Summit begins
In Cape Town, South Africa, the fifteenth Africa Economic Summit has
begun. One of the main priorities on the agenda is combating
poverty. Before the summit, new World Bank president Paul Wolfowitz
said that economic development would be one part of the solution in
the battle to reduce poverty on the continent. Over 650 politicians,
business leaders and representatives from international
organisations are attending the three-day conference that is
sponsored by the World Economic Forum. In particular, the
participants want to discuss British Prime Minister Tony Blair s
plan to reduce debt and increase investment in Africa.

Geldof plans "Live 8" concerts
The Irish-born rock musician Bob Geldof has announced plans for five
free concerts aimed at pressuring world leaders into eradicating
African poverty. The so-called "Live 8" concerts are a follow-up to
the "Live Aid" concerts Geldof organised twenty years ago to raise
money for the starving in Ethiopia. They are to take place on July 2
in London, Berlin, Paris, Rome and Philadelphia, shortly before a G8
summit of the world s wealthiest nations in Scotland. A number of
star musicians are due to appear. Organisers are hoping for one
million spectators at the concerts and up to two billion viewers
around the world.

Commission launches five-year strategy to boost the digital economy
(1 June 2005) The Commission adopted on 1 June the initiative
"i2010: European Information Society 2010" to foster growth and jobs in
the information society and media industries. i2010 is a comprehensive
strategy for modernising and deploying all EU policy instruments to
encourage the development of the digital economy: regulatory
instruments, research and partnerships with industry. The Commission
will in particular promote high-speed and secure broadband networks

a lance son projet de service de localisation geographique : MSN
Virtual
Earth. Ce service, prevu pour l ete 2005, proposera des calculs
d itineraires, des cartes routieres et un moteur de recherche des
commerces
locaux (restaurants, cinemas, hotels...). MSN Virtual Earth utilisera
les
technologies de MapPoint et de Terra Server, une base de donnees d
images
satellitaires que Microsoft detient depuis 10 ans. MSN a d ailleurs
signe un
accord exclusif avec la societe Pictometry International Corp. Le
projet MSN
Virtual Earth proposera alors des vues aeriennes prises d avion sous un
angle de 45 degres ainsi que des images satellitaires de grande
qualite, ce
qui le distinguera de son concurrent Google Maps lance en fevrier
dernier
(les images satellitaires qui illustrent l application ont ete ajoutees
en
avril dernier). Les informations proposees par MSN Virtual Earth ne se
limitent pas a l illustration, l internaute pourra egalement lire et
emettre
des commentaires. Le service, qui resulte d une cooperation d une
dizaine
d annees avec l USGS, Aerial Images, Inc et Compaq, sera gratuit
(contrairement aux sites commerciaux comme mapmart.com, maptech,
terrafly,
topozone, GlobeXplorer ou le portail homologue terraserver.com qui
resulte

Le Plan NRA HD vise a ameliorer l'acces au Haut Debit en France
moyennant des investissements de France Telecom dans son reseau afin

Telecom a annonce un objectif d'ouverture de 1500 NRA HD sur la
periode 2005-2007 principalement oriente vers les Zones d'Activite
Entreprises, mais pouvant egalement concerner des zones residentielles
situees en zone d ombre ADSL (c est a dire mal desservies en ADSL car
etant en limite ou en dehors d une zone de couverture ADSL, comme a
titre d'exemple les communes d Herblay dans le Val d Oise ou Olivet
dans le Loiret).
