[GrokDotCom] Keyword Metrics and Accountability
Keyword Metrics and Accountability
What do you think of when someone drops "keyword" into the
conversation? I immediately start seeing dogs going at each other
demolition derby style - a real dog-eat-dog extravaganza! Keywords
are critical, and they are big business.
But you only want to dig deep into your pockets for those keywords that
are going to earn their keep. How do you identify the hard workers?
John Marshall of ClickTracks contributed this information about the
"average time on site" metric for our book, Call to Action.

Google the Follower
This depressing CNET article paints a picture of Google desperately and
somewhat pathetically following in Yahoo!'s portal-making footsteps,
but nine years behind. Truthfully, it has been a depressing few days
for this Google observer, since the launch of the Fusion home-page
personalization product last Thursday. I see it as a mortifying and
inexplicable release for Google. Marissa Mayer, Google's VP for
consumer products, is attempting to deny that Google is creating a
portal; rather the alternate home page is "a good way to start your
entree to the Web." Um...isn't that a portal?

Kids prefer to search visually
A friend had invited me to dinner the other day; she has a 12-year old
daughter who - of course - knows how to use a PC, and who - of course -
know how to google for information about her favourite TV shows.
The interesting thing is the way she uses Google: she only searches in
Google Images. She obviously doesn t care (nor know) that Google Images
covers only a tiny subset of the actual Web search, and that she
probably won t ever see the best content that s available for Charmed.
It doesn t bother her at all, because "text is so boring".

Web Site Strategies that Work!!
By Philippa Gamse, CMC
1. Review your goals and markets for your site:
a) Are there clear business goals and desired outcomes behind your Web
site, and for each major page or section? How will you evaluate your
success?
b) Have you defined all the target audiences for the site, and the
"languages" they speak? Do you have compelling benefit statements,
testimonials, case studies?
c) Does your home page appeal to each of your target markets and
audiences? Does it effectively direct them to appropriate areas of your
site?
d) How compelling are the "calls to action" on each page?

Search engine marketing
By Sandeep Juneja
Internet Marketing Simplified
© Sandeep Juneja
All the great efforts made for making your own site, goes in vain when
your site doesn't bring you business. The reasons can be anything
right from less traffic, to less page-per-views, or lesser PageRank.
Upon serendipity of elaborating all of the above said problems, I would
land up in search engine marketing basics.
- Less Traffic means fewer hits to your site.
- Fewer pages per views mean users checking your site but not getting
interested in clicking on other pages. They don't find it interesting
to surf through.
- Lesser PageRank. PageRank is Google's way of measuring the quality
of a site. They will give your site a rank marking out of 10 as
maximum. So your site may stand 0/10 initially. Then it may acquire
higher PR (PageRank) according to the above said factor enhancements.
It is to be noted that a PageRank of 4 is thousands time better than a
PageRank of 3.
- If your site doesn't appear on any search engine result pages
(SERPs), upon searching for any keyword, then it may take a backseat.
So here is some advice to what can be done to improve it.

FAQ: Using PPC (Pay-per-Click) Google Adwords & Overture
An FAQ with info on how to use Google Adwords and Yahoo Overture for
Your Web Marketing
"(PPC) is at once starkly simple, bafflingly complex, and highly
effective."
-- Rick Bruner, Director of Research, DoubleClick.com
Summary
PPC (Pay-per-Click) lets you place your ad in search engines such as
Google.
Your PPC ads are displayed when a user searches for your service. This
means your ads are shown only to people who are interested in your
product or service.
Your ad s placement is based on how much you bid against your
competitors: the more you bid, the higher your ad will appear.
Of all advertising (telemarketing, magazine advertising, newspapers,
radio, TV, banner ads, email marketing, etc.), PPC brings the highest
conversion rates and the most qualified leads.
In contrast to nearly every other form of advertising, PPC is fully
trackable: you know what works, what doesn t, and you can concentrate
your budget on what works.
