Hey guys,

See below for a quotation for the bus hire through the arts community centre catstrand. He is saying total costs for a 16 seater (hire and mileage costs) would be £63.25. Add onto that the one off £20 fee for registering as a user group and it is £83.25. He sweetly said he would throw in a volunteer driver.

I called up 'Dumfries Taxis' (http://www.dumfriestaxis.com/) which is held to be the cheapest firm in town, and he only has an 8 seater so would have to bring out another taxi alongside it to fit everyone (and everything!) in. His quotattion for this was £85.

Do we go with that and pay the extra £1.75 to avoid the faff of filling out the form (it's attached below, not that complicated) or do we go with the community arts centre who seem altogether helpful, if not a little faffy?

For some reason, I am truly torn.

x

Lauren,

First of all we have a 16 seater mini bus available on the morning of Friday 22nd March 2013 and I have booked it provisionally for you – I would be grateful if you would advise me a.s.a.p if having considered the cost etc you still require it.

As I explained there is a one-off fee of £20 for Firefly International to become a Registered User Group – I have attached the necessary forms for completion, please if you are going ahead with this . (The £20 fee will be invoiced after the bus is used ).

As far as 22nd March is concerned there is a £25 fee for using the vehicle (all user groups pay this) and then a charge of 45p per mile- the total mileage will be approx 85 miles – i.e. £38 – 25p  - Total cost for the morning £ 63 – 25p.

You will see that there is no charge for a driver, as a) most user groups have their own volunteer and b) we are not allowed to pay drivers for this type of service – I will find a volunteer to drive, and if you wish to show your appreciation in any way (for instance sometimes people have a collection on the bus ), that is entirely up to you !

Any queries please do not hesitate to contact me, and I look forward to hearing from you soon,

Regards

Hi Lauren,

I understand you feeling torn. That form is a bit of extra faff, it's true. But I would lean more towards Catstrand on this. I like the idea that we would be making links. And I like what they're doing. I think that's worth just a little bit of extra faff, for which we should forgive them (I say this having been at the other end, working at Forest, and wishing that people would see past the faff involved with trying to do things 'differently', and come join the party anyway).

I could have a crack at the form this afternoon, if you really don't want to do it:)

Hey yaz,

Thanks for the feedback! I actually hoped you would say that as I'm leaning towards them too. I'll have time to fill out the form no problem, its not a particularly taxing one, it was more that i was worried i was over complicating things by having us registered etc. But i agree it would be great to make links with them and support something that we believe in. They have also been super nice about it. Plus if we ever do events around there again - no faff!

So, unless there are any nay sayers, il go ahead and fill it out.

X
