So I was having a problem running this software on my pc with windows
7. Finally got it to work with another pc I found running xp. I am a
little stuck because no data is streaming into the program. I know I
had to download curt binders development libraries which I did and up
load it which I did. It also says something about downloading ralogger
scetch. Can someone direct link this to me and what am I supposed to
do with it once I download it.

Have you read this page?

http://www.reefangel.com/Configure-Client-Suite.ashx?NS=Community

It's a great place to start with getting the Client Suite configured
and running properly. There is a note at the beginning on what needs
to be enabled on your controller.

Also, reading this page:

http://www.reefangel.com/Upgrade-to-Development-Libraries.ashx?NS=Community

It will tell you what the configuration settings are for (you have to
scroll down about half way through the page).

Lastly, if you are using a USB cable to communicate with the
controller (ie, you do not have a wifi module), then you will want to
use RAGen version 1.0.3 and not 1.0.4 because the PC Logging option
has been removed in anticipation for the upcoming Client release.

As far as the RALogger sketch goes, it's just a template for what the
sketch / PDE file should look like to operate properly. PDE files are
the files that are used by the Arduino software to program your
controller. RAGen (link above) handles generating/creating the PDE
for you to make programming your controller much easier (so you don't
have to have any programming knowledge at all to get things working).

If you read through the pages / links I posted, you should find all
the information you need to get yourself up and running. If you still
have some questions after reading the links, feel free to ask and
either myself or somebody else will help out.

James, you're not the first to have install issues with Windows 7 and then have success with XP.  I'm sort of perplexed at the moment as to why that is.  I develop and run the application on an Ultimate x64 Win7 machine, and tested successfully on a x64 Professional Win 7 as well as my girlfriends x86 Windows 7 Ultimate.  I'm not really sure yet what the issue could be.  What kind of errors were you getting and what version of Win7 are you running?

Dave,
I'm running on Windows Home Premium x64

When is that new client coming out?? I'm looking forward to adding
the expansion module for 8 more relays this weekend. My tank keeps
expanding.

Ok Curt for the most part I followed all these directions the only
thing is I was using RAgen 1.0.4 so that was obviously wrong. When I
get home I will try this. Oh right now I am running the sample code
would I have to actually upload the code from the RAGen software. I
really do want to use the RAGen I just haven't gotten around to
changing the code so that the top off doesn't timeout after 250
seconds.

Hey Dave,

I stated all the errors I was getting in a previous post called ATO
timeout. Another big issue I was having was the uninstall was not
working. It would remove part of the program but leave a lot of the
program embedded in the registry. For this reason I could not get a
fresh copy reinstalled until I used revo uninstaller and stopped some
of the services that were present. This happened several times and I
really don't expect people that don't have a good knowledge of
computers to be able to do this. In fact on my XP computer it did the
same thing when it came to the uninstalling the program.

I think the fix for this is to stop the services before attempting to uninstall, since those executables and assemblies are locked while they're running.  I tried overriding the uninstall logic to search out and stop the services manually before it goes through and starts removing the program.  I haven't got it working completely correct yet, since I still get prompted by the uninstaller that another process has control over the executable.  I get 3 options to retry, continue or abort.  Pressing continue at that point will indeed stop the service and remove everything completely as expected.  It's not the correct way to go about it though, and still needs some work.  Ive noticed the same behavior as you when aborting mid uninstall.  The rollback won't complete correctly and some of the installation will remain including some entries in the registry.  I've had to manually go through and remove those entries before I could install again..

It seems for the most part, the application itself is working okay for most users, the installer just needs some work.  I'm back up and running w/ development and hope to have a new installer out for you guys soon.  Bug fixes and new features have been finished up for this release, I'm now just solely concentrating on getting the installer working properly.

Thanks for the comments/feedback/experiences with everything so far.  Looking forward to more of it to come.

-Dave

Thanks Dave. I got your software to work on my crappy AcerOne running
Windows XP. It really is very impressive. Do you have any plans to
write software for Mac OSX?
