So I've been having some trouble keeping connectivity on my wifi
unit. I know my wireless is kind of jumpy sometimes and may drop out
for a couple hours once a week or so. Every now and again I have to
reset my router which resets all of my IPs. Well I think it's moving
my IP around for the RA, which is making Dave's Client unable to
connect to my controller even though it says "connected".

I'm not sure how to fix this! I went through and ran the wifi pde
again and it told me I was already setup and half the time it told me
my IP was 0.0.0.0:20 and then I'd have to cut the power and plug it
back in a couple times for it to give me a "real" IP. When I take
that over to the Client software, it doesn't find it. When I type in
the IP address, it doesn't show the server. When I type in the
IP:Port/wifi, nothing. What am I supposed to do to make this work
again?

Curt, can we add the IP to the menu somewhere so someone can pull up
the IP address of their RA quickly to connect to their Client
software.

Any suggestions appreciated. Just when I thought I had it working...
back to the drawing board for me on the wifi.

Hey Alex,

You can always reserve an IP address on your router so it will assign always the same IP to your wifi attachment.
It's based on MAC address, which is unique for every single device.
To find out which devices you've got in your network, I like using netscan tool.
http://www.softperfect.com/products/networkscanner/
If it's showing 0.0.0.0:2000, it's probably because it is having a hard time getting an IP from the DHCP server from router.
To really confirm the device is really using a particular IP, you have to ping that ip address and watch for the response.
Open a command prompt and type:
ping 192.168.1.100
change the ip address to yout specific one.
If it replies, you've got a device using that ip, if it times out, you either don't have anything or there's a firewall dropping the packets.
I hope this helps you troubleshoot your problem.

Roberto.

As always, thanks Roberto for the quick response.

I downloaded that tool. That's exactly what I was looking for
yesterday but I downloaded 1 or 2 other programs that just sucked.

Is there a specific MAC address assigned for the wifi module that you
set? Or is it different for every wifi module? I am going in 1 by 1
and trying each of the IP Addresses. The next problem would be if the
port is switching... that would be really hard for me to track down.
Before it was 80. During my last setup it was 20. Now who knows.

Each module has a different MAC Address set by the Manufacturer of the wifi module.
With that tool, you can simply click "Auto-detect IP Range" and click Start Scanning.
It should find all visible devices for you.

Now the module isn't connecting to the internet I don't think. It was
flashing slow green, indicating good connection and now it's blue and
green flashing fast. None of my other computers are having any
troubles with connecting. What do you recommend?

Also, any way to determine the port other than running the pde again?

If you download the wifi setup recently, I modified it to port 2000 to match what the manual said.
I remember you were the one even to point that out to me.
You can connect with TeraTerm and use command "get i" and it will give you the ip and port being used.
If nothing else works, return it to factory settings. Follow instructions on the manual.

along these lines if I set the Mac address for the RA wifi do i then
have to set all the rest of my computers?
I just always pick 0.0.0.2.2000 .My Ra wifi seems to always reconnect
before my computers so it usually gets the 2nd ip issued and it works.
But those times it dosent .have got some same ip on two devices error
and the have to go though and find what the new ip is .
Plus one time i didnt notice for a while and i have that port open an
the computer that got that ip had numerous virus attacks that day. No
harm.
So to not have to deal with it would be a great help to me .Any ideas.

I'm using the latest and greatest wifi pde you put up. I tried port
2000. No dice. I think my wifi module is really struggling to
connect. Blue and green lights... its like christmas in my sump.

Might try to restart the router... again. I'm going to disconnect
everything that uses that router except the RA and let it try to
connect first.

Progress... I found it! I had to turn off the internet connection on
everything... I didn't realize I had so many things connected
(printer, media pc, laptop, main pc, laptop, cell phone). I think
there was an IP conflict and that's why it didn't work. I have the
MAC address now, so I'll work on assigning it so I don't have these
problems again.

Thanks for all the help guys! And thanks Adam for the instructions,
I'll start working with the MAC address.

Ok, I just figured out how to assign it a MAC address, so it's
assigned 1 IP. That should alleviate the problem... working for now.
