Hi all,

Hope the gathering was good last night - I hope to be back next week.

The exhibition below might be of interest - on "how the landscapes of Britain permeate great literary works" – reminds me of the "address of a landscape" idea Berger discusses in A Story for Aesop.

Dougald, let me know when the blog is set up – I would like to try those 3 pieces about different kinds of mapping (would like to start with the geographical one – visiting this may add some connections... it doesn't open till 11 May though so no great hurry!)

Hannah

Writing Britain: Wastelands to Wonderlands
11 May - 25 Sep 2012

Next month we will celebrate some of the outstanding gems in our English literature collection. From William Blake’s London to the 21st century suburban hinterlands of J G Ballard, Writing Britain will examine how the landscapes of Britain permeate great literary works.

Highlights include original manuscripts of Laurie Lee’s Cider with Rosie, one of the great nostalgic paeans to rural living, and of Robert Louis Stevenson’s Strange Case of Dr Jekyll and Mr Hyde, on loan to the UK for the first time.

The Listening Project

In partnership with the BBC, we are asking people across the UK to share their intimate conversations.

This initiative is about creating the space for people to have a conversation they always meant to have. What you talk about is up to you. It could be a moment of joy, sadness or reflection.

S
ome of these will be broadcast by the BBC and added to the Library’s Sound Archive, building a unique picture of our lives today as well as preserving it for future generations.

Hi Hannah,

This exhibition is going to include some of the Berger archive actually! 'Islington', from Here Is Where We Meet. And the book Gareth Evans recently published, Railtracks, is John and Anne Michaels talking about the area around King's Cross....
