Hi,

In my enthusiasm for Redis I pre-ordered the book Redis: The
Definitive Guide on Amazon, that was announced to be released at April
22nd, 2012. This morning I received an email from Amazon that the
release date was changed to April 4th, 2013. Is this really true, a
delay of a year? If so, I will look for an alternative (e.g. Manning's
Redis in Action, although not published either). Any other
suggestions? I have the Redis cookbook, but that does not contain more
than the documentation on redis.io.

Thanks in advance for answers/suggestions,

Jos

If Salvatore and Pieter's book on Redis has been delayed, I'm sure it
is for a very good reason. Discussion about the HA agent, the
in-progress cluster work, and the now supported Lua scripting are big
features that deserve to be written about. Though I don't have any
inside information, I would guess that discussions about the HA agent,
the in-progress cluster work, and the now supported Lua scripting are
big those are my guesses as to why it has been delayed.

On the Redis in Action side of things, I can only say that the book is
progressing. There are 2 chapters that are in the process of being
edited that are not available via the early-access program, and more
chapters on the way. If you want to follow me on Twitter (dr_josiah),
I'll be posting when you can get a deal on Redis in Action, or you can
buy it directly here: http://bit.ly/redis-in-action .

Regards,
- Josiah

And FWIW, I got a review copy of Redis in Action from Manning and thus
far it definitely looks like a good one -- it should be a great
introduction to Redis with the right level of in-depth information.
Good work, Josiah.

Thank you for the kind words - I'm hoping that my work on the
remaining chapters are at least as good as the ones that you've
already read.

- Josiah

Thanks for the answer, I will be updated via your twitter account. Since both "Redis in Action" and "Redis: the definitive guide" will not be released this year, I will start using redis without a book. The site documentation is pretty good too. In 2013, I will consider reading those books.

Best,

Jos
