A user could download games and apps from the Windows Phone Store; if an Xbox live account is enabled, the store could be accessed remotely from the phone itself. Microsoft had lined up a wide range of popular games to be available from the launch of Windows Phone 7.[7] Also at Gamescom, Microsoft unveiled more than 50 premium Windows Phone 7 games and apps[8] that used the Xbox Live mobile connection.

Happily, the latter is easy for any iOS or Android smartphone in 2020, and happily the camera set-up on the P40 Pro is up to the task of ensuring plenty of snapping fun, especially with high zoom factors, for anyone brought up on the Lumia 1020 and 950. Slightly worryingly, the USA-China trade war has meant that Huawei had to create this phone with zero Google services, so is essentially taking Android Open Source Project code and adding its EMUI interface and Huawei applications. Then adding its own App Gallery store.

If you strip away all the theories about why Google Apps are not available for Windows Phones, you can not get away from the fact that Google is in competition with Apple and Microsoft.

Looking at the amount of apps in the Windows Store, Google doesn't feel the urge to push the issue.

Now the same can be said a few years ago when Google had basically nothing in the Apple App Store. Then something happened, Apple popularity exploded. When Apple all of a sudden became a threat to Google, all of a sudden you begin to see an abundance of Google apps showing up in the Apple App Store.

Once they realized Apple was becoming too popular, they decided that they needed to be in that space. Market shares play a huge role, and right now Google just doesn't feel like they need to be worried about Microsoft.

Looking deeper, when the iPhone was released, it came installed with Google Maps, Google Search YouTube, and a Mail app.

When the Windows Phone was released, it came with Bing Maps, SkyDrive, Bing Search, no ability to make 3rd-party browsers Google-friendly.

Even if Google did release YouTube or Hangouts to the Windows App Store, those users are going to be making use of Bing Search and IE, so there is zero benefit or incentive to make the effort.

Google also knows that even though people want to try these Windows Phones, they won't without certain apps. Even though people would consider the phones, Google is holding the cards right now and isn't budging.

Perhaps the biggest reason that Google is not going to play nice with Microsoft is that Google simply has a major problem with the Windows platform in general.

The best way to explain this issue is that Microsoft offers users alternatives to many of the services that are already being provided by Google. Google feels that once a person tries the phone, they may start to get more comfortable with Bing or Skype, and rely less on all the services that Google offers.

Right now, by limiting the apps from showing up in the Windows App Store, Google feels that little to none of their users will be jumping ship anytime soon to be the first to experiment on the other platform.

These are 5 of the reasons why Google Apps are not available for Windows Phones. Google does not feel like they have to be worried about the competition as long as they are taking care of things on their home front. If Google can keep the user happy on their platform, they know the user is less likely to be looking for another.

The only thing that could change this relationship is if Microsoft becomes like Apple, a huge threat, and if that occurs, Google will certainly do whatever it takes to stay in front of their captive audience. For now, Google is not worried.

With its Snapdragon 801 processor, 1080p display, and feature-packed camera, this phone is the same as its original variant, and as such, the most powerful Windows Phone handset yet. What's more, the One M8's luxurious styling is a big threat to the Nokia's high-end aesthetics of the Lumia line.

We admit that these are minor issues and this is nitpicking on our part since the phone brings important design improvements to the HTC One franchise. Notably, its screen is now larger -- 5 inches across diagonally (as opposed to the previous 4.7-inch display). And unlike the first One, HTC says the M8's chassis is truly built entirely from metal. By contrast, the company explained the original One's body was 70 percent aluminum, the rest being plastic.

Additionally, the device sports a pair of powerful stereo speakers that flank the display. Also branded by HTC as BoomSound, these front-firing grilles belt out a ton of sound, at least for a mobile handset. Even better, it's definitely louder and produces sound with way more presence than last year's model. This is because, HTC said, it enhanced the phone's BoomSound audio system by cranking up the volume by 25 percent, and improving its frequency range. But don't just take our word for it. Be sure to check out our deep dive into the HTC One M8's upgraded audio prowess.

Some words of warning, though; if you choose to view the phone's screen in the great outdoors, do so without polarized sunglasses. When one of our reviewers, Brian Bennett, did this with his pair of Ray-Bans, the screen in portrait orientation was dim to the point of being unreadable. Under landscape position, however, there weren't any problems, and the display was just as bright as usual under these conditions.

Until the last month I'd never used an Android Phone or an iPhone as my personal phones. I've been playing with them in work or with family phones, and I have to honestly say that I never fall in love for them. But I need to refer that I'm not a hater of them, I respect both Operating Systems.

You cant install the windows apps directly on windows phone, because windows can also run .exe files but windows phone can not. You can only run a windows app on windows phone if its a universal app and that to by installing through store.

Mobile applications (apps) can be very useful software on smartphones for all aspects of people's lives. Chronic diseases, such as diabetes, can be made manageable with the support of mobile apps. Applications on smartphones can also help people with diabetes to control their fitness and health. A systematic review of free apps in the English language for smartphones in three of the most popular mobile app stores: Google Play (Android), App Store (iOS) and Windows Phone Store, was performed from November to December 2015. The review of freely available mobile apps for self-management of diabetes was conducted based on the criteria for promoting diabetes self-management as defined by Goyal and Cafazzo (monitoring blood glucose level and medication, nutrition, physical exercise and body weight). The Preferred Reporting Items for Systematic reviews and Meta-Analyses (PRISMA) was followed. Three independent experts in the field of healthcare-related mobile apps were included in the assessment for eligibility and testing phase. We tested and evaluated 65 apps (21 from Google Play Store, 31 from App Store and 13 from Windows Phone Store). Fifty-six of these apps did not meet even minimal requirements or did not work properly. While a wide selection of mobile applications is available for self-management of diabetes, current results show that there are only nine (5 from Google Play Store, 3 from App Store and 1 from Windows Phone Store) out of 65 reviewed mobile apps that can be versatile and useful for successful self-management of diabetes based on selection criteria. The levels of inclusion of features based on selection criteria in selected mobile apps can be very different. The results of the study can be used as a basis to prvide app developers with certain recommendations. There is a need for mobile apps for self-management of diabetes with more features in order to increase the number of long-term users and thus influence better self-management of the disease.

Microsoft pulled the plug on Windows Phone 8.1 a couple of years later, then in 2018 it ran out of phones to sell. A quick reminder: the Windows Phone 8.1 app store is closing its doors on December 16.

Since its launch, the Crackle app has garnered top rankings on the iPhone, iPad and iPod, as well as Sony and other manufacturers' Android phones and tablets. Today's announcement continues a series of major content expansions and product launches for the brand, including Crackle's launch on the Xbox LIVE service in late January 2012--which has generated millions of online hours viewed by Xbox 360 users. Launches in 2011 included Sony Internet TV, Roku streaming players, Sony Blu-ray players and Sony Streaming Player, BRAVIA televisions, PlayStation 3 game consoles, Google TV and Google Chrome.
