Is this something I have, that I should have installed
or do I have to go get one?

Does any of this explain my bad response times?
What should I get rid of?
Are there problems with gnuchessr?

Well, you've got a problem right there. RedHat 7.3 is way, way, way out of
date. Time to update.

Holy freaking! You're using not only your limited 256 Meg of RAM, but almost
every byte of your half-Gig of swap. That will send your performance to the pits.

gnuchess? Sheesh!!!! It's got 92% of your CPU! Turn it off for th emoment.

How fast is your CPU, and can it take more RAM?

Looks like logrotate is wedged. Kill it off.

Kill off the logrotates and see what happens.

Thanks, that helped a lot.

Good. Glad to help. You might try running logrotate manually, and seeing
whether and why it's getting wedged. And keep an eye on it tonight to see if
it wedges again.

But old bugs in system utilities are *not* going to get fixed in such an old
OS release. Can you update to something contemporary?
