Gnome App Launcher Question

I'm trying to add a new laucher icon to my Gnome icon bar.
I add the icon and enter the command string:

/usr/bin/gmix&;/usr/bin/gtcd&
This works fine from a terminal window and brings up the
two apps I want. But when I click my new icon nothing
happens.
What am I missing?
