I hope the painted bride is great

While I was in Alexandria i went to a poetry show. I went to a place
called bar nun and the show was mc'd by
a chick called raquel.

Not one person knew me. Not one person toadied to get gigs. Not one
person even came up to me. It was an unusual experience.

The down side is that I had to listen to all the poetry.

most of it sucked.

Most of it was presented with a jazz/reggae drummer in background, sua
sponte blending in with the presenter

Without the drummer the show would not have moved.

I would say that only Raquel was any good, but then again, what she was
doing was more clearly on the lyrics side rather than the poetry side, as
what she presented was clearly a song, tho she did it without the drummer.
It was very obviously an a cappella piece and she had a vocal
accompaniment.
No mind, it was still good

there was also this dude there whose name escapes me, and he was
respectful but not chatty. Dreads. said he was from NY and from a group
called Rebelliant.

I had no opportunity to figure out who this was, as I left before the
break. It was a very long 4 hour show, from 8:30 to midnite, and I split
11.
The dude said, when on the stage, that he was moving to DC, so I felt
unmotivated to talk more.

I enjoyed my anonymity. i was ready to judge if necessary, but tho this
was billed as a slam there was no judging. it might have been fun but i
guess it is best I never judge.
