Hello,

My name is Zubin Mithra and I wish to take part in GSoC from the part
of Redhat. I have contributions to Transifex in the form of bug fixes
and I am also working on the same in Cobbler. My other recent
contributions include writing an open-source geolocator module for
Sahana-Py.

I have been through the ideas list of Fedora for the year 2010 and am
interested in contributing in three ways listed in my order of
preference :-

1. Working on making an interface for Fedora for easy management using
IP tables
2. Working on cobbler
3. Working on transifex

I was wondering if i could apply for more than one idea for a
mentoring organization. Hoping you could give me some guidance.

Thanking you,
Zubin Mithra

There's alot of thinking that has gone into this problem. I suggest
you research the problem space a bit, see who has come up with
different solutions, and work on a project that tries to integrate an
upstream project better with Fedora. Now is definitely the time to do
the research.

This is a pretty straight forward idea, get some buy in from the
cobbler devs, and present a good idea.

> 3. Working on transifex

Excellent. We've had a number of good GSoC students in the past
working on Transifex. You'll have to talk to Dimitris about this.

You're more than welcome to make more than one application. While the
process is very competitive, it's a good idea to be upfront about
having made more than one application. The two mentoring organisations
will sit down and discuss based on their collective opinions which
organisation will be a better fit. If you want to submit an
application to two mentoring orgs, just be transparent about this.

The second concern is the quality of your application. I see you're
interested in a number of things, but what we prefer to see is one
really good application in place of three humdrum applications. Before
you shoot off fifteen applications to five mentoring organisations,
decide what you enjoy the most, find a really good mentor for that
project, and make sure that application is stellar. This will take up
so much time that you may not have the time to submit another 14
applications, but it'll raise your chances of getting a slot far
better.

Thank you so much for your advice. I`ll do a fair amount of research
before i make my next move.

Thanking you,
Zubin Mithra
