"The FAO Award for Achievement will recognize specific professional achievements in various sectors and programmes related to the work of the Organization, with due regard to areas where FAO undertakes extensive work, such as fisheries and aquaculture, biodiversity, environment, forestry, climate, land and water, animal and plant health, FAO/WHO Center, FAO/IAEA Center and Codex Alimentarius.
By celebrating proven solutions and leadership, FAO reinforces its commitment to building resilient food systems that support food security, environmental sustainability, and improved livelihoods worldwide.
The award recognizes past and ongoing achievements rather than providing project funding.
Eligibility Criteria
1. The award is open to a diverse range of applicants, including:
• Individuals
• Public and private institutions
• National or local governments
• Academic and research organizations
• Foundations and non-profit organizations
• Private sector entities and social enterprises
2. Applicants must demonstrate that their work has produced verifiable, long-term outcomes rather than short-term or pilot-level results.
3. Initiatives:
a) may operate at local, national, regional, or global levels, provided their impact is clearly demonstrated;
b) should clearly explain what problem was addressed, how it was solved, and why the solution matters globally.
4. Key thematic areas:
• Agriculture and sustainable farming systems
• Fisheries and aquaculture
• Forestry and ecosystem management
• Food security and nutrition
• Climate action and resilience
• Natural resource management
• Agrifood system innovation and governance.
Award recipients:
• receive a USD 10,000 cash prize;
• gain international recognition and increased visibility for their work through FAO platforms.
