Invitation to Attend a Special Forum jointly organized by the Centre for Business and Society and the Earth Institute, University College Dublin: 

Noncooperative Spaces and Marginalized Stakeholders

Chowdhury (2020, p.4) defines noncooperative space as a “highly restrictive, disadvantageous, or even harmful” social location resulting from institutional arrangements that constrain individuals’ capacity to utilize their real potential and skills in pursuing entrepreneurial initiatives. The hostility of noncooperative spaces arises from powerful actors’ actions to thwart cooperation among individuals. 

However, can the concept of ‘noncooperative space’ be extended to contexts beyond entrepreneurship, such as marginalized stakeholders’ participation in organic financial activism, combating climatic change and creating a more inclusive academia? Can ‘noncooperative space’ help scholars and practitioners to reimagine problems affecting business and society,  and advance novel solutions in pursuit of sustainable development goals? 

The Forum seeks to address and explore the above-stated issues and facilitate the envisioning of alternative ways for achieving social justice, racial equality and more equitable socio-economic growth underpinning the sustainable development agenda.
