Dear colleagues,

We are very pleased to circulate the Call for Abstracts for Panel 13: “The Question of Cosmopolitics for STS and Critical Health Studies”, which we will convene at the 1st STS-CAT International Conference, STS Encounters in the Mediterranean, taking place in Barcelona, 3–5 February 2027.

Taking Isabelle Stengers’s question of cosmopolitics as a point of departure, the panel asks what STS and critical health studies might desire to think today, and how health might be approached as a contested field of practices through which worlds are made, damaged, interpreted, and held together and apart.

We welcome theoretical, empirical and methodological contributions engaging with Planetary Health, One Health, antimicrobial resistance, microbiome science, environmental illness, chronicity, climate and health, community care, critical mental health, psychoanalysis, psychotherapy, therapeutic cultures, astrology, meditation, feminist and decolonial STS, art–science–society practices, and more-than-human methodologies, among other related areas.

Rather than asking simply whether heterogeneous health practices are true or false, the panel is particularly interested in what they make possible, what obligations and attachments they produce, and how they coexist, conflict and compose worlds alongside biomedical, psychological, environmental and public-health frameworks.

Abstract submission deadline: 23 September 2026.

Please find the Call for Abstracts poster attached. We would be very grateful if you could circulate it among colleagues, research groups and networks who might be interested.
