STS Postdoc position at the Internet Interdisciplinary Institute (Universitat Oberta de Catalunya) / H2020 project on smart technologies
The selected person will join the CANDID project group (Checking Assumptions and Promoting Responsibility in Smart Development Projects)” and the Internet Interdisciplinary Institute (IN3), located in the Mediterranean Technology Park, Castelldefels (Barcelona, Spain). The IN3 is a research centre of the Universitat Oberta de Catalunya (UOC) devoted to the study of the Internet and the effects of the interaction between digital technologies and human activity. The main project objective is to study aspects of the 'smart' agenda in which practitioners from the Social and Human Sciences (SSH) offer unique and valuable insights of relevance to innovators and researchers in the ICT - LEIT areas. Centered on topics concerning of users, design, digital rights and infrastructures, CANDID will engage SSH and ICT - LEIT researchers in ‘extended peer communications’ aiming at Responsible Innovation. We offer a full-time contract (40 hours/week). This is a 1 year contract starting on January 2017. The position can be extended if new projects get funded.
Tasks to be done
• The postholder will be responsible for conducting intensive dialogue aiming at Responsible Research and Innovation between SSH researchers and researchers, engineers and innovators in the area of smart developments and critically analyze the emerging visions of 'smartness'
• In particular, the analysis will be focused on two aspects: the configuration of smart users and the emergence of data-driven governing ecologies
• The postholder will be responsible for conducting intensive dialogue aiming at Responsible Research and Innovation between SSH researchers and researchers, engineers and innovators in the area of smart developments and critically analyze the emerging visions of 'smartness'

Requirements
• Experience in the area of Science and Technology Studies
• To combine experience in qualitative empirical research in the field of sensing devices and self-tracking technologies with a theoretical grounding in governmental studies, user studies and/or urban studies
• Experience with various qualitative social-science and participative and collaborative methods
• An academic and critical mind-set, very good research, writing and collaborative skills, and an excellent command of written and spoken English
• It is also mandatory to have a good level of Spanish. The candidate must like to work independently, travel and collaborate closely within a small and interdisciplinary team
