The Fraunhofer Institute for Systems and Innovation Research (ISI) in Karlsruhe, Germany (http://www.isi.fraunhofer.de)
is seeking a PhD Researcher for Innovation Research and Technology Assessment in the field of Information and Communication Technologies (Reference No. ISI-2013-72). The position will be in the "Emerging Technologies" department and will commence on 01.01.2014
(or earlier). The researcher will work on research projects focusing mainly on the analysis of scientific-technological, economic, societal and policy aspects of the development and utilisation of information and communications technologies.
Mainly, you will be working in projects funded by the German Ministry of Research and Education or the European Commission, focusing on topics such as privacy, data protection, security, privacy by design, privacy enhancing technologies,
informational self-determination and societal compatibility of ICT applications. Recent projects include PRESCIENT (FP7, 2010-13), SAPIENT (FP7, 2011-14), PRISMS (FP7, 2012-15) and IRISS (FP7, 2012-15), MARS (German Ministry, 2012-2015).
You are a social scientist (political science, sociology, communication sciences, etc.) with good knowledge of information and communications technologies and experience in analysing the socio-economic aspects of and innovation in ICT.
You should have interest in interdisciplinary research in the fields of policy, industry and technology. You should have very good knowledge of German. English language skills are desirable. You should have good computer skills and the willingness
and ability to work in interdisciplinary teams.

Employment terms, remuneration and social security benefits are in accordance with the TVöD (collective wage agreement for German public sector employees). The employment contract is limited to one year with the option of extension to another
three years.
