Dear colleagues,

We are pleased to share the call for papers for a special issue we are guest editing for SSM – Qualitative Research in Health, entitled:

"Between Public Health & Personalized Medicine: Governance and Experiences of Emerging Genomic Screening"

Submission deadline: 30 September 2025

This special issue welcomes both empirical and theoretical contributions that explore the complex and evolving landscape of genomic screening. We are particularly interested in interdisciplinary work across anthropology, sociology, STS, and bioethics that examines the interplay between economic logics, regulatory frameworks, and ethical tensions in various screening contexts—including neonatal, reproductive, and direct-to-consumer genomics.

We invite contributions that engage with one or more of the following themes:

The actors, institutions, and interests shaping screening initiatives

The role of scientific evidence and epistemic authority in legitimizing tests

Patient experiences and the emergence of new subjectivities and responsibilities

    Regulatory, economic, and ethical challenges

Emerging inequalities in access and outcomes

You can find the full call, including thematic focus and submission instructions, at the following link:

Manuscripts should be submitted via the SSM-QR Editorial Manager system, selecting the article type “VSI: Mapping Genomic Screening.”

Please feel free to circulate this call widely within your networks. For any questions or to discuss potential contributions, do not hesitate to get in touch with one of us.

Warm regards,
