Rob Kitchen would be very interested in hearing from people with a Surveillance Studies background for both the 2 postdocs and the 4 PhD positions here. It looks like a really exciting project that combines geography / urban studies and software studies / STS.

David.

Subject: ERC Programmable City project: intro and posts

Dear all,

as some of you may know, I've been awarded an ERC Advanced Investigator award for a project entitled 'The Programmable City'.  The project will run over 5 years and be staffed by myself, 4 postdocs and 4 PhD students.  The project is essentially an empirical extension of the Code/Space book (MIT Press, 2011), focusing on the intersection of smart urbanism, ubiquitous computing and big data from a software studies/critical geography perspective, comparing Dublin and Boston and other locales.

We have just advertised two 5 year postdocs and the four 4 year doctoral positions.  I am emailing to ask if you would please bring the posts to the attention of any suitable candidates who might be interested in applying for the positions, or perhaps forward on details to suitable mailing lists or place links on blogs/websites/tweets, etc.  The posts are not restricted in discipline and I'd really like to put together an interesting interdisciplinary team.  The project also has funds to host five international workshops and conferences and I'll be back to a number of you at some point about attending these once I've got the local team in place and the project started.  The remaining two 4 year postdocs will be advertised later in the year.

Prospective candidates can find out about the posts via these links:
