EASA ha abierto una de las tres conferencias plenarias que forman parte del programa de su congreso bianual a la participación de jóvenes investigadores.
A diferencia de años anteriores, donde sólo tres personas eran invitadas a hablar, en esta ocasión la plenaria pretende funcionar como escaparate de un abanico mucho más amplio de proyectos de investigación (hasta 12 personas). Para dar cabida a ese número de personas se propone a su vez un formato poco habitual en reuniones académicas, pero que esperamos funcione también como desafío y provocación.

EASA YOUNG SCHOLARS FORUM
Are you a young scholar? Would you like to present your work at an EASA Biennial Conference Plenary?
In connection to this year’s EASA Biennial Conference theme, the Young Scholars Forum looks forward to capturing “collaboration, intimacy and revolution” both in form and content.
We wish to invite young researchers, especially postdocs, to take part in this event that, revolutionising the tradition of previous Young Scholars Forums, will be organised as a wide-angle snapshot of what young scholars are really up to, showcasing emerging anthropological talent, themes and ideas. We hope that the Young Scholars Forum will properly become a venue for pulsating what anthropology is up to today.
To this effect, we are organizing a session where 12 young scholars will be invited to present their work. The presentations, however, will be constrained in time and form. Speakers will be asked to prepare a 5-minute presentation where they must introduce their work in exactly 15 slides and 20 seconds each slide. 15 slides, 20 seconds per slide, 5 minutes. A moderated discussion will follow the presentations.
Who should apply?
Young scholars willing to explore the possibilities opened-up by this new format, and who want to expose their engaging research and ideas in a panorama of otherequally promising peers.
The presentations should not be hurried-up “text-plus-images” summaries of people’s work but rather should be critical and creative visual analyses, which may employ for example animation, data-visualisations, video, montage, etc. Of course a text-only presentation may also work, although you’ll likely to be raising the stakes of the challenge!
How to submit your proposal
If you are a recent postdoctoral student and find our challenge of interest, we would love to hear from you. Please submit a 250-word abstract describing your area of work by February 27 following theinstructions outlined at the conference webpage: http://www.nomadit.co.uk/easa/easa2014/panels.php5?PanelID=3210
Having sent us your expression of interest, you should start working on a 5-minute video presentation (15 slides, 20 seconds each slide) of the work you intend to present at the conference.
You must send this video-piece to us by May 1. EASA will set-up a YouTube channel for you to upload your videos. Instructions will be posted in due course at the conference webpage.
In the event that we receive more than 12 submissions, the convenors will organize a selection process that shall abide by the following criteria:
(i) Videos that stick rigorously to the format (5 minutes, 15 slides, 20s per slide);
(ii) Videos that make a creative use of the format for conceptual / ethnographic exploration (that is, not simply adding a narrative to the slides);
(iii) Videos that address the conference's theme explicitly.
All the video-presentations received, regardless of whether they are selected or not for presentation at the YSF, will be made available at EASA’s webpage.
