Hey y'all,
Just some thoughts for the T-giving and winter hols break:
1. Should we change the name of the group/event to something else? Do we not need to "redefine" J-school (based on what Michael told students about Gateway) but instead spur new development of classes in things like iPhone/mobile app classes, entrepreneurial journalism, website building, new digital tools, etc.?
2. Should we have a second barcamp in winter or should we have it in spring? I'd like to set one up for mid-Feb, personally, and start cranking the PR juice, but I don't want to do it alone (which is, after all, part of the point).
3. Who's paying for this one? (I still need to get reimbursed, yo.)
4. How can we get more students, staff and faculty involved — in this group, on Wave, on Twitter, Facebook, etc., and in real life?
5. We had great participation by professionals last time, with My Eugene, Joel Johnson and Abraham Hyatt in person, and others commenting on the Twitter discussion (we need to project the backchannel next time, I think).
6, Should we try to hold one of these in Portland, at the White Stag building, at some point?
7. How much more should we try to get the official SOJC involved? I'd like more conference planning support, to be honest, but that's MY goal, not everyone's.
8. What topics do we need to cover?
I think that's enough for now. Basically, my main questions are: Should we do one in mid-Feb, and how can we get more people involved in making it happen?
Happy T-day,
Suzi
