Transformative Nutrition Practice of the Month
November: Thanksgiving This month, in honor of the Thanksgiving holiday, we've chosen to focus on the potent practice of gratitude. It has been said that being grateful is one of the fastest tickets to experiencing true joy. Just think of how quickly we become unhappy when we focus on what we don't have and it's easy to grasp how shifting our focus toward what we do have would generate happiness. Take a moment to reflect on what gifts, whether in the form of people, attributes or things fill your life?
Traditionally our gratitude has been expressed by feasting on plentiful amounts of food in acknowledgement of nature's/divine abundance and blessings. While we hope you all thoroughly enjoy your holiday feasts this year we hope to offer a few other ways to focus on what you have to be grateful for in your lives and to express gratitude daily for the abundance of all your blessings.
This month's practices:
- Practice giving thanks before and/or after every meal. Acknowledge the earth and sky, the Divine, the farmers, food workers, the cooks and yourself for collaborating to bring you the food from which you are nourished.
- Keep a daily gratitude journal and write down each day 10 things for which you are grateful.
- Find yourself a "gratitude rock", (see The Secret), a stone or any small object you can keep in your pocket to remind you to be grateful throughout your day whenever you stumble upon it.
- Send a note of thanks to someone who has made a difference in your life.
- Offer your gratitude to your community in some form of service. See what kind of volunteering opportunities are available where you live and give of your time from a place of abundance and recognition of all you have.
