Im trying to access the ZTE H268a modem, but the user/password "admin" does not work.
I tried copy/paste "admin", no spaces, etc.. to no avail.
I cant reset it either, as specified on the box.
I want to put it in bridge mode to use my own modem (Netgear WNDR3700V2 with Gargoyle).
If anyone knows hot to make it work, ill be very obliged.
I have HFC.

Possibly the only reason it won't work is if someone has changed the Admin password from the default "admin". Do you know if this is possible? If that's happened, the only option for you is to do the factory reset.

To re-load the configuration, you can do it yourself if you feel confident (and if you have your PPPoE credentials handy) or you can call support on 13 39 38 and they can remotely push the config to the ZTE for you.

Thank you,
I don't have the PPPoE credentials, they just installed the cable (I have hfc), connected the nbn modem, and after 10 minutes the (ZTE) router was working. Am I supposed to have the credentials?

The modem should be pre-configured.
However, if you reset it or would like to brigde it then you will need login/password that Exetel sent you in email.
If I understand correctly, you do not need to bridge the modem if you'd like to use BYO device on HFC.

What i've done so far and didnt work:
-swap wan from ZTE to my router
-rebooted both netgear and nbn modem while connected
-factory reset netgear
-connected nbn to pc directly (card says "unidentified network")
-tried spare dodo router (working 1st time with optus cable a week ago) plus good 'ol rebooting

Well done.
The old WNDR3700V2 was a great little router in it's time. I have one in amongst my spares and backups kit that I can't bear to let go. Quite powerful given internal aerials; sturdy and reliable.
But:
- Old tech (2011)
- It's only n600
- Older devices are more prone to security holes
- It adds a second, unnecessary device in to your network

I understand and i agree about the speed, Netflix loading went straight to 99, almost instantly, but:
- i love the USB storage to share video, inexplicably disabled with the ZTE
- Adblock its a nice feature
- Traffic monitor with who, how much and when
having said that, after tasting the speeds, probably this year i'll change it with something with both features and speed.
Damn.

Hi Glen, I don't want to reset the modem, just the password. Everything is working fine right now, I don't want to jeapordise performance by being accused of changing modem settings (which has happened in the past by Exetel helpdesk).

Unfortunately I changed my username and password on my ZTE H268A when i was setting it up with Exetel broadband connection. I can't find where I wrote it down and can't remember it. I'd like to set up a bridge to a Netgear Orbi router to improve the signal around my rabbit warren-like house. Is my only option to reset the modem ? Any help would be appreciated. Thanks

Thanks GlennW but luckily I fluked the login and password and am able to change the ZTE settings. I have connected the Orbi router internet port to the ZTE LAN1 port and created the bridge as per other forums, however, I still can't get the internet connection to work. Could you confirm if the settings below in the bridge I've created are correct.

Also when I am going through the orbi app connection process its asking for the ZTE username and password. I am entering the 10 digit password I was given with the exetel NBN connection. Should this be correct ? Could there be another or different password I'm not aware of? The Exetel_ADSL PPP username is the same as the one I was given but the password is only 6 characters. Its just shown as 6 dots. Thanks.

Signed up Monday arvo then waited. At 10:30 at night lost my internet. By time realised that Exetel had switched it, with no notification or account/password details it was after 11pm and their tech support had closed.

Rang at 8:30 and was sent the login and password. Tried with my Telstra modem adding in these and no go. Tech support said that I should contact the modem manufacturer/supplier for login support (yea right Telstra is going to help me on connecting to Exetel!! and yea Techicolor support is where?). End of call. I then try an Old Tplink modem Archer c7 - again enter details. No luck.

I log into Exetel site. Find my service is connect as of monday and the tier on use has started. Like monday I had only 1:30hrs total time to use that day. Ok its only one day leat, but pretty poor form especially given they never sent long in details until next day.

Called support, again no luck, while agent was pleasant, no satisfaction asked for supervisor, but as agent was working for home all they could do was transfer me to I think sales. They could only assist by transferring me back to support. I cant recall who also gave vague mention they would ask supervisor to call me regarding my request for someone higher up to speak to me. No surprises that I havent received a call.

Again I entered all the details into my two modems. No luck, all lights on modem ok etc etc. Called tech support. Again generic announcement, limited support with third party modems. The support person, who I will name (Ray) for the reasons you will see to follow, went thru process of entering in the passwords etc. No luck but this time instead of telling me its my problem with the third party modem, she went thru with me a number of steps that I will skip here. We then determined that the NBN box needed to be reset.

Exetel have credited me back with the charges, and were apologetic for the issue, at least they do respond, so that is to their credit. Although they did indicate that it was a "goodwill" gesture, which to me is technicaly incorrect, but hey if it lets some face be saved so be it. No big deal on that score. Apart from the inconvenience of being off air for the 24hrs while switching it hasnt ended badly.

Given others posts below, guess they still have some processes to improve, especially the one sending login details after disconnection of your old provider, rather than sending it in advance.

Took me an hour to get working because the password they sent me had a capital I (for India), which happens to look like a lower case l (for Lima) in basically all fonts. Was using different devices so couldn't copy and paste!

@Twix: Fingers crossed.
My experience has not been great to date.
I noticed the pricing they emailed me didn't match up to what was on their site at time of sign up either so I had to email them to confirm.

Yeah, I still don't understand the decision by Superloop to make Exetel their "Premium" brand.
It's like flipping the long term reality and Exetel have a big step up to make in their service level.

But the majority of the problem was that OP had not done sufficient troubleshooting to resolve the issue.
Turning things off and on again, should be right up the top of the checklist in any IT troubleshooting!

Agreed, did that with modem, even tried different modems. Just forgot about NBN box, but point here was also that you would think tech support at Exetel would know that as well as the MORE telecom people would. MORE seemed to also know more about the Telstra modem. Which is fairly common out there given Telstra's market position.

Had to call and it was a bit of clumsy process to provide me with logon details as well as instructions to reset nbn modem but after this was running pretty seamlessly. Not terribly but certainly could have been a whole lot easier.

I moved from the Telstra deal and had the same issue, set my connection date for Sunday and they processed my change in AVC with nbn at around 12:10 am, but didn't send me my PPPoE credentials until about 8:40 am. Then the credentials didn't work for about an hour of modem and router reboots before finally springing into action.

Re: the Telstra deal, has anyone had to return the modem or been charged the $200 fee? I just got a notification from them that they are sorry to see me go and that was in - nothing showing in the My Telstra app that I owe them anything back.

Mate, used to be good back in days in 2019 before Superloop slashed their NBN50 prices. Superloop also removed their 500GB plans for 100/20 which were at $74.95 and it was convenient to me as we never used more than 500gb in a month.

Before we jot down the steps to go about the process of Netgear extender setup with the ZTE modem router, we want you to know about the most basic thing that will help you complete it effortlessly. For your information, your Netgear extender should flaunt the default factory settings before you attempt to connect it to any router or modem router. To make things happen, locate the Reset button on your range extender and press it very carefully using a paper clip or a sharp pin. The extender will reset in a few seconds and you can go ahead with the process of connecting it to an Exetel ZTE modem.

Did You Know?
You can also make your Netgear range extender run on default factory setting by accessing its web-based management panel. For this, you have to access the login portal and look for the Reset/Erase option (depending on the extender model) and click it.

Now that your Netgear WiFi extender is behaving like a completely brand new extender i.e. it is working on its default settings, you are all set to join it to the ZTE modem router. The steps are explained in detailed below:

Now, the step has come after following which you will be able to employ or unemploy an Ethernet cable connection between your extender and modem router. To proceed, open a web browser on your computer and visit mywifiext.net. You will soon see the New Extender Setup page. The next screen will ask you to choose if you want to use the extender as an Access Point or an Extender. After that, you will be asked to input the WiFi network name that you want to extend. If the Exetel ZTE network is already there, select it and input the WiFi password. Save the changes and assign other network settings. The connection is successful.
