What are DEL (delete) files used for? Okay to remove?

In our scenario, we have added a PDF through the asset manager at one point in time. At a later date, we have deleted the PDF since it is no longer relevant. We noticed that on the server that the PDF is removed but a DEL (delete) file is added. It also looks like the date and time stamp is including in the file name. 

Does anyone know what the DEL file is used for? Is it okay to remove these DEL files from the server?

Hi,

The DEL file is used for clean up liveserver, generation of the DEL file can be disabled via project/project variant settings.

I have heard mixed opinions on whether this is needed or not.  You might want to open a ticket and check with support
