We are running Management Server 10.1 Build 10.1.2.310 and would like to add TinyMCE and/or JCE as editor choices. Open Text advised that they do not support either per se, and we need to refer to the SmartTree documentation, p.43, which states:

Text editor – You can define different kind of text editors as the project's

default editor to edit Text elements.

Project default – Select a text editor from the drop-down list. You have

the following options:

Telerik RadEditor – (default setting for new projects)

RedDot Text Editor – (only available in Internet Explorer)

FCKeditor – (not available in Internet Explorer)

Other ... – You can define a different editor for editing the texts in

your project. To do this, configure the following settings:

URL of external editor – Specify a URL for the directory where

the external editor is located. The directory must be located in the

ASP directory below the installation directory. For example, if the

directory is called ExtTextEditor and the ASP file is called

TextEditor.asp respectively, then you need to enter

ExtTextEditor/TextEditor.asp. For the Ephox EditLive! for Java

editor, enter Ephox.

Name of the element that contains the text that should be

stored – Specify the name of the element that contains the text

you want to store. For this, see the information outlined below.

You do not have to specify anything in this box for the Ephox

EditLive! for Java editor.

I will appreciate feedback from anyone who has added either TinyMCE or JCE to WSM. What version of the editor(s) are you using and is the above sufficient information to configure it?

Thank you for any advice or opinions.

Hello Chad,

Thank you for this information. You have created a lot of valuable documentation. I downloaded the latest TinyMCE version (4.0.3) and unzipped into our ASP directory. I am unclear about what to do next. Is the 3.x RedDot plugin something that you created? Is it necessary, and if so, would this one work with 4.0.3? [I could try installing the 3.5 version that the plugin is intended for.]

I am also unclear about whether the installation that you have done adds this editor as an additional choice, or whether it replaces and becomes the only default. It appears that templates need modification in order to use the editor, and I am not sure that will work in our environment. We currently offer some choice of editors to most users. We also use some standard templates for many users. It would help to better understand how to do a simple installation of TinyMCE with no particular customizations until we get a better idea of how to integrate it into our CMS installation.

Any clarification would be very helpful.

Thank you for the excellent resource you have  created and shared!

I believe almost all of your questions are answered in the installation instructions: http://webpress.missouristate.edu/TinyMCE3.5.htm

WSM only allows you to set an external editor as the project default – you cannot add a “new” choice. Users can still switch their preferred editor from the settings menu to something other than the project default.
