I need someone to ride with me to the DMV to do the road test as I only have a permit. Would anyone be willing to ride up to the Elston location with me sometime next week? Buy you a beer.

For what its worth, they're not going to ask you how you got there or who you arrived with, unless you're worried about something happening en route.

I got my permit, took the msf course, dicked around on my own for a couple weeks around the neighborhood then went to the Elston facility to take the test.

That's pretty much the same position I'm in right now. I've considered just going up there myself, but didn't want to risk getting the bike impounded. You think it would be fine to just show up?

I tried doing this same exact thing.   Got to the DMV after riding for two weeks with my permit.   Got there and they said the ground was too wet.  But I would say the same thing... my friend dropped me off and left to go shopping

I actually rode to that same DMV today with a friend of mine. He
doesn't even have a permit but has been riding for a while. They saw
him ride in, get off the bike and then attempt the test on my bike.
(He has a harley and it was too big to even attempt the course on).
There were no questions asked. Unfortunately he was not comfortable
enough on my bike and put a foot down during a corner which caused him
to fail the test.

I thought it had to have been more than that.  That's only just a few points off.

I brought the bike to work today. Planning on riding up around 4 before they close. Thanks for the advice everyone!

I'm thinking of opening a motorcycle rental shop across the street from the DMV specializing in providing 250CC bikes to use for the rider's exam... :)

That is actually a brilliant idea! I suspect you'd be doing some repairs on dropped bikes :P

Only needs to be 125cc and up? I took my test on a automatic 125 scooter. It was a joke

Wellll I failed it. Went outside the lines on the first test and hit 2 cones on the second one. Bummer wave. The course was much smaller than I expected and I was extremely nervous. The <6mph didn't help either.

Going to try another facility tomorrow after some more practice.

Bummer, sorry to hear it man. I'm sure you'll ace the next one. Maybe practice in a parking lot beforehand so the exercises are fresh??

Just a warning, Driver Services at secretary of states offices tend to SUCK on saturdays. Like, line was out the door when I was at the west side facility 3 weeks ago to get plates, 15-20 minutes after they opened. Fortunately there's rarely a wait for vehicle services. Unfortunately, that doesn't help you any.

What bike did you do it on? I did mine back when i was sixteen and aced it on a tw200 .. i also found its a million times easier to stand on the pegs doing all the tests. But thats just my personal oppinion

I'm going to try to replicate the course and doing it really slow. That was the biggest problem I had. In my previous practice I was doing the exercises at 10 or 15 mph on a larger scale. Not having the speed to adequately lean really through me off.

I'm using a CB200T. On my ride up I discovered that there's next to no torque under 3800 rpm. Standing on the pegs? I'll have to practice that tomorrow. That could work.

Tight turns going slow you gotta opposite lean to keep the bike balanced and not tip over yeah practicing in a lot is probably a good idea. Or watch how the pros do it and just scrape foot peg going 5mph lol

bummer dude.  I rocked mine in second gear, i thought it was easier. When I finished, they were like WTF did you do it in second gear?

Practice man.  Thats what it takes.  I took the ride chicago course for 300 bones and it has saved me in more than a few life threatening situations.
