Search for records in DASHBOARD

"I am wanting to search on the dashboard page to identify a known record ID or associated metadata such as search by first name and surname or city or residence etc.
One of the purposes of the dashboard is to enable research assistant revisit the participant at different event times and they need to be able to rapidly find the case in the dashboard. If the study contains hundreds or thousands of records then this is problematic. Our RAs for this project are community members so need a method to find the right case quickly and in a straightforward, few steps, user centric fashion is important.
Clearly the search and filter function is built in somewhat with the ability to create Custom dashboards. Have others found the same need and come up with solutions within REDCap functionality or via extensions/pluggins etc

"Take a look at Marshfield's Orca Search external module. It can act as a replacement for the "Add/Edit Records" page or be accessed via a menu link and is designed to work better than the built-in search and dashboards for projects with large numbers of records.
