Have you tried HIDESUBMIT Action Tags - v3.1.0. In addition, you can use [current-instance] <= 3 in Form Display logic. The presumption is tha we are repeating fixed 3 times and [current-instance] <= [day0_arm_1][controlling_variable] it is dependent on any input variable

Update: I was looking at different ways of combining repeating forms and events earlier, and I realised I'm over complicating it - all I need to do is combine the parent/child forms into one form with ...more

Hi Amit,

Yes Amit - good call ...

On the version I've done that uses instance tables, if they limit's been reached, I use @HIDESUBMIT and branching logic on a descriptive field in the instance table pop-up to tell them they've reached the limit and can't add another. I also hide all the input fields so all they can do is click "Cancel".
In an ideal world though, I'd rather they can't even attempt to add another, but I just couldn't get that to work.

Thanks for your reply,
David.

Hi David

How about using Form display logic to control the iterations

Thanks and Regards

Hmmm - that's an interesting idea Amit.
I never thought of that with an instance table form. I'll give that a try and I'll report back later.
Thanks!,
David.

I gave it a try Amit.
I added the same logic which hides the fields in the instance pop-up into the form display logic. For some reason it always hid every instance of the pop-up after the first. I tried adding in [curren-instance] and the event arm, but always the same result. I think it must be something peculiar to how FDL works in instance pop-ups.
But a I was doing it I realised something - even if I could prevent the popup window appearing, I'd still be left with the "Add+" button on the parent form.
So all things considered, I'm going to go with the approach of having it all on one form and just hiding/showing 10 sections. It's not very elegant, but it does what I need it to with no loose ends.
Thank you for taking the time to help.
David.

Dear David,

I am not an expert. But this is working. I do  get a + button when I view the Record Status Dashboard. But when I click on that + button, it takes to the individual record dashboard with + button disabled. Similarly if i have opened a repeating instance form, the Add New button is disabled when i hit the threshold. So, the user cannot enter an extra record

Hi Amit,

I'm not sure why that would be.
Maybe we tested it slightly differently.

I was testing it from a new parent form with the instance table embedded in a field and the "Add+" button under it.
When I added a form display logic rule for the instance table form, it let me add one instance table form, but the rest showed up as pop-ups containing the record dashboard (no matter what I had X set to).
I tired prefixing with the [{event name}] and suffixing with the [current-instance] but nothing worked.
That's the specific scenario I needed it to work in, so I had to abandon it.

Maybe I did something wrong - I don't know.
Nonetheless, I've decided to go with the 10 hidden sections approach now, so I'll persevere down that road now.

Thanks again for your help,
David.
