4 Steps to Bring Sandy Hook into your Classroom

1. Select a focal point or variable to measure:
Living: Plants (Wildflowers, grass, trees), Animals (birds),
Seashells, Seaweed
Non-living: pH (soil, water), light, Temperature, salinity

2. Select a location or locations:
School yard
Students' homes
Sandy Hook
Also, consider collecting samples yourself.

3. Decide on a sampling method:
Area
Transect
How deep to dig?
How many recordings?
What time of day?

4. Develop a Project Webpage:
Sections include
This is what we did-->Background; include pics of location(s),
instruments used, organisms counted, Description of project

This is what we found--> charts, graphs, more pics

Math topics that can be included:
Averages
Range
Ratio
Percent
Probability
Precision
Accuracy
..among others
