Hi guys,

I'm having an issue where my dashboard has become blank and cannot be edited or archived.

These were the steps I took right before the error:
  • I had 2 widgets (line charts) on the dashboard and deleted one of them.
  • I added a new widget (bar chart) to the dashboard.
  • I went to edit dashboard to reposition the 2 charts, but it showed 3 widgets including the one I already deleted.
  • I saved the changes thinking that the widget I already deleted would not appear.

What happened:

The message that appears when I attempt to archive it is: "Are you sure you want to archive the "undefined" dashboard?

The link still appears in the menu (with it's original name of 'Refunds') and the goes to the correct URL (/dashboard/refunds).

Is there any way I can force this dashboard to be archived or deleted?

Thanks,
John

Hi,

I think that you're experiencing the issue described here: https://github.com/getredash/redash/issues/708
In the GitHub issue Josh explains how he fixes it (you need to have admin permissions).

The fix that prevents this from happening will be part of the next release (0.9.0).

Thanks for the quick reply Arik, that fixed the issue for me!

I have been using re:dash for about a week now and it is excellent. I read all the documentation on redash.io but did not know of the admin interface until reading the github issue that you linked. I typed in /admin and it came up, but just FYI that this might help others if it's included in the docs.

Thank You!

The documentation is definitely lacking... I'm pretty sure that if I give you a 15 minutes tour, I'll surprise you with more features you didn't uncover yet :-(

The documentation is on GitHub (https://github.com/getredash/redash/tree/master/docs) and each page has an edit link, so everyone can edit but I guess that it's still not a straightforward process for most. Maybe we should use something like readme.io to simplify the process.

Speaking of documentation holes :)

In the past I've had problems with the data connection editor, and to fix them I had to go to an old version of the documentation that still described the data management command-line options. Because the modern docs dropped the full description of the command-line. Please don't do this- you can't be sure the UI will always do the right thing.
