Hello all-

I am new to red5 and ubuntu. Everything I have read about installing red5 says download the tarball, extract anywhere, and then run the red5.sh. Server will start and goto IP/port and tada!

I am missing something, when I do this on Ubuntu Trusty 14... I keep getting the error:

Running on  Linux
Starting Red5
Error: Could not find or load main class org.red5.server.Bootstrap

Is there a place I need to set a path?

Thank you

Jessica

Usual this sort of error has to do with an older version of Java installed on your machine. In other words, the Red5 classes are compiled with a higher version than your system has installed.

I run Ubuntu 14.04 with JDK 8. I would first make sure you grabbed one of the tarballs (tar.gz) from the releases section here:

Right now, I suggest milestone 5 here: https://github.com/Red5/red5-server/releases/tag/v1.0.7-M5

The red5.sh included will have the correct path for the red5-service.jar which contains the Bootstrap.class.

So Thank You. I ended up removing the old version of red5 and  installing release 1.0.6. I also took your advice and did install Java8... however I cannot seem to get Ubuntu 14 to point to it with update alternatives. Still researching that one.

Thanks for the response. It got me thinking in the right direction

Look at the stackoverflow ubuntu site, search for removing other java installs if using just jdk 8 will work for your other endeavors.

Well I am a Windows user but installed a Linux box for myself for red5 ffmpeg etc last year. Ubuntu 14 LTS.

Sharing my Java installation version info, if that helps.
