Press Statement
The National Platform for the Rights of the Disabled (NPRD) welcomes the Karnataka Government’s draft Bill extending reservation for disabled persons to the private sector in both education and employment.
The draft Karnataka Rights of Persons with Disabilities in Employment and Education Bill, 2025, notified on November 21, mandates that private establishments employing twenty or more persons reserve 5 per cent of all sanctioned posts for persons with disabilities.
With shrinking government-sector opportunities and inconsistent implementation of the existing 4 per cent quota, the need for private-sector reservation has become urgent. NPRD has long advocated for this measure.
NPRD also welcomes the Bill’s proposal to mandate 10 per cent reservation in all educational institutions, including schools, colleges, and universities.
We thank the Karnataka Government for this significant initiative and look forward to the Bill’s early introduction in the State Assembly. This should also impel other states as also the Centre to introduce similar legislations.
