I have created a Google Map overlay for participants and organizers to
add useful locations.

http://maps.google.com/maps/ms?ie=UTF&msa=0&msid=

Editing is closed to "collaborators" (to avoid spam and whatnot). Any
collaborator can add a collaborator. Message me or perhaps Alicia
(who I have added as a collaborator) to be added.

Protip for people not familiar with NYC subways, enable the "transit"
tab in google maps to see where subways run. Additionally, I like the
resource http://www.onnyturf.com/subway/ for visualizing where subways
go.

Please add useful descriptions to any added locations that are not
self-descriptive (i.e. Staples, Home Depot).

If someone gets the opportunity to call up those 3-4 radio shacks and ask which ones have the "drawers" of lose components, and then add the info to the map, that would be helpful.

NYC Resistor has a list of local parts suppliers.

Hi,

I am very interested in your overlay but I can't see it when I copy
and past your link above.

Am I doing something wrong?

Thanks

Google seems to have split it into two lines, did you make sure you copied the whole link?

Try this shortened link.  http://bit.ly/jvBnJy

I called the Radio Shack's listed on the map overlay, to confirm which locations have the parts drawer of electronics components, and added the information to the map.  There are other Radio Shack's in NYC, some may even have the parts drawer, but I focused on the RSs that I thought would be in useful neighborhoods.

Thank Ari,

The short link did work. Thank you.

I am trying to set up something similiar, an organizations map where
we recognize and publicly reward young citizens for their
contributions to society.

We're health care professionals wishing to reward good people for good
things.

The legend you use is ideal to our cause.

Do you know if a transparent overlay can be put over the map?

Do you have a reference tutorial you could refer me to?

Darren
