Thanks to those of you who came to todays meeting! We have lots of ideas, but I think we can accomplish them all if we try to accomplish some planning on the google groups/when we're at home, and then start taking action at the meetings

COIN DRIVE-Chinese Orphans: Half the Sky

UPDATE: Clapp still hasn't had the time to meet OR reply to my email. BUT she has an idea of what's going on, just need final confirmation from her...30 April--4 May is what we're HOPING to get...

Morning Announcements

Anyone not @ the high school in the morning want to do some morning announcements? It'd be nice to have different people/group of people talking each day telling what our cause is helping, how people can help, an update on the drive, etc. We prob need to start the announcements April 26 (Thurs) so we can remind people on Thursday and Friday to bring money for Monday and onwards..so thats about 7ish people? We could also have two people go on at a time if we have a lot of people volunteer ;D

So far, I THINK Allison Fann and Megan LeGresley have agreed to do some morning announcements (THANKS :D)...did anyone else? Sorry it was kind of unclear at the meeting XP If you want to do a morning announcement REPLY to the post and then we can organize which days/what you're going to say.

Posters

We still have yet to get Clapp’s permission on this as well…but holding up posters in the morning could help parents see what’s going on and make their kids donate some money :D I don’t really remember who said they could do this…sorry XP could you guys REPLY to the post

Next week hopefully we can have a poster-making session…I’m also trying to find out if Half the Sky can provide posters, I’ll let you guys know how that goes XP

 Chains

At the meeting we decided that doing the paper chains idea would be pretty fun to raise awareness around the school. Maybe we could make each grade have a specific color and $1=1 chain? or something like that? Feedback, guys?

Senior Center-

Sydney said you would contact the senior center right? This can be just a short little fun project :)

Food Drive-HOPELINK

We were originally thinking of making food and donating it but I was looking into the local food funds…and they all said they wanted canned foods XP Making the food would also be pretty complex because everyones scared we’ll poison it or something, so would doing a simpler food drive sound good? It’s pretty much the same as the one RJH had back in December where we stood in front of QFC, passed out flyers, and people donated food and $! That was pretty fun, and it’d be nice if many of Red Balloon Project members did it together?

I already contacted Hopelink because their close by, to find more info. They said, all I need to do was to give them a date and then we can stop by at their place and pick up posters, boxes, etc. And they already sent me this entire food drive kit with flyers and such (email me chibi...@gmail.com if you want to see it). All we have to do is talk to a store (QFC? Maybe we could have a group in Redmond QFC, another @ Sammamish Safeway or something? Feedback?). Also, WHEN should we have this?  HONOR SOCIETY HOURS DUE May 4th I think? If we could fit it into next week—(We were saying WEDNESDAYS right? so April 25th?)—that’d be nice…if not, which we prob won’t be able to, we would have to do it sometime in May? or After the whole field day thing in June. There is this event called End Summer Hunger, so any of those times would be great. What do you guys think is best?

FIELD DAY-

OKAY this project is gonna be the HARDEST to organize so we need all the help and input we can get:D

IDEA: SPONSERS-NAVEEN WHAT’S YOUR EMAIL wait Naveens not even on the google groups O.o ehhh anyone know his email? XP Well. If anyone has any idea of any businesses or groups that want to sponser the event, it also helps the businesses themselves and helps our cause :)

CAUSE

The cause is the most important part of this event—it’s essentially our focus and everything pretty much revolves around it. Yes—splitting up the $ toward several causes would be wayyy too complex. So instead of going to a specific place in the world, we were thinking something more universal? Michael had a good point—to give the $ to a cause that NEED the money and would be benefitted this way (i.e. orphanages [medical things have their own special ways of using money]). So then, a couple of us were talking and we thought that maybe disabled children who can’t afford the therapies, treatment etc., would help—its local and relatable for a lot of us, while it’s all over the world—not just here. Does this cause sound good to you guys? Feedback please :) Disabled Children’s Relief Fund http://www.dcrf.com/ordereze/default.aspx seems the most reputable. But there’s also some other ones such as the Morgan Project http://www.themorganproject.org/ and Jonah and the Whale Foundation http://www.jtwf.org/. The Morgan Project and Jonah and the Whale Foundation are focused towards giving money to the families affected that need help.

Raising money

So we discussed that we shouldn’t raise money through admission—this way more people would come. Instead we could have all these booths everywhere for people with informational things for adults and separate areas for kids and teens to play around and such. So, we could have little boxes that say “Donate here” all over the place that would go towards our cause.

What we have to start planning is WHAT BOOTHS WE’RE DOING :P

  • ·        Sponsor booths (oh, this is an idea but if we follow through with disabled people cause we could def ask Special Olympics to come because people find that interesting)
  • ·        Selling stuff…? Kelly?
  • ·        Food. Who wants to be in charge of food? XD
  • ·        Fun games and stuff aimed at kids and teens. We brainstormed a quick list some meetings before.
  • ·        If we’re doing disabled children for our cause, we could have like some booths aimed for them specifically too?
  • So far it seems like we’re still doing a talent show—Does anyone know of any group of people or any person who wants to perform?

Make Believe…uhh sorry Sydney, I didn’t catch the whole name XP

Anyways, Sydney had an awesome idea that was nice and simple but really cool :P We can prepare little gift things attached to a note which can raise happiness and moral everywhere if we send them to our families and friends, etc. It basically lets them know that we’re the Red Balloon Project and we want help people and if they want to donate, they can. I THINK—Is this the right idea, Sydney? Anything else you want to add?

K GUYS I’M REALLY SORRY THIS IS SUCH A LONG MESSAGE—Took a while to write to. But we have a ton of ideas. And if we all take the time and work a bit through here on the google groups and discuss, we could save some planning time @ meetings and actually do some work there :D Thanks guys for you input, help, and everything :)

Hey guys--
We're actually going to visit shepherd's field children village (chinaorphans.org)--they're a foundation that helps disabled orphans in China through two of their orphanages in Hebei province (think beijing/tianjin area). Just wanted to let you guys know~
